The Orofino Junior High 7th-8th Grade Boys track team finished off the 2019 track season by placing 3rd in the 7th-8th Grade boys division of the YMCA middle school invitational track meet held at Mountain View High School track in Meridian, Idaho on May 25. This meet required that you have qualifying marks/times to be able to participate in the meet. Orofino had 7 boy athletes that chose to participate in this meet and they were James Moore, Elijah Ortega, Seger Pettingill, Tucker Malloy, Sam Fisher, John Dafoe, and Alex Powers. Special thanks go out to all the family and friends who traveled to Meridian to support all the athletes in this special year ending track meet. Also, thank you’s go out to volunteers Steve and Joyce Nobles for helping coach the discus and shot put during the season and to Cindy Beardin who captures beautiful pictures of the team in action during the season’s track meets.

The Orofino 7th-8th grade boys highlights were bringing home a total of 20 medals. The Orofino Medley Relay team also won for the 4th year in a row at this meet. The Medley Relay team of Alex Powers, Tucker Malloy, James Moore, and Seger Pettingill set a new Orofino Junior High 8th grade boys record with a time of 1:48.26a. The old 8th grade record was set in 2015 by the team of Zeke Hasenoehrl, Nick Hardin, Luke Peterson, and Jeremiah Powers with a time of 1:49.08a.

The Orofino Junior High 7th-8th Grade Boys results of this meet are as follows: 400 Meter Relay: 2nd-Orofino (Elijah Ortega, Tucker Malloy, Alex Powers, James Moore) 51.09a; 800 Meter Relay: 4th-Orofino (Elijah Ortega, John Dafoe, Alex Powers, Tucker Malloy) 1:46.14a; Medley Relay: 1st-Orofino (Alex Powers, Tucker Malloy, James Moore, Seger Pettengill) 1:48.26a (New 8th Grade Boys Record); 1600 Meter Relay: 5th-Orofino (Sam Fisher, John Dafoe, Alex Powers, James Moore) 4:19.09a; Discus: 8th-John Dafoe 95’ 06”; High Jump: 4th-Tucker Malloy 5’ 00”; Pole Vault: 1st-James Moore 9’ 06”, 2nd(tie)-Elijah Ortega 9’ 0”.

Aiden Olive and Tim Short were the boys that qualified from Orofino that chose to participate in the 5th-6th Grade Boys division and brought home 6 medals. The 2 boys scored 40 points which allowed Orofino to place 2nd in the team competition out of 23 teams. The Orofino 5th-6th grade boys results of the track meet are as follows: 200 Meter Dash: 3rd-Aiden Olive 30.28a, 6th-Tim Short 30.39a; 400 Meter Dash: 4th-Tim Short 1:07.79; 200 Meter Hurdles: 1st-Aiden Olive 34.02a; Shot Put: 2nd-Aiden Olive 31’ 06.5”; Discus: 2nd-Aiden Olive 74’ 06”.
