Orofino Maniac football came away with their first victory of the year this past Friday night on the road in Marsing Idaho against the Huskies. There were a lot of “firsts” for Orofino. First Offensive Possession touchdown scored when the Maniacs took the opening kickoff, a failed on-sides kick, from the Marsing 48 yard line and in five plays scored on a Darrian Cannon scamper of 15 yards on a fourth down and fifth attempt.
First time this year the Maniacs would score defensively when Emmitt Lilly would have a pic-6 after stepping in front of a Husky quarterback pass attempt and 46 yards later the Maniac Senior Corner back crossed the goal line for Orofino’s fourth touchdown of the evening.
It was the first Time this year that five different Maniacs would score in the game. And it was the first time this year Orofino would shut out an opponent. All of this and more lead to an Orofino 31-0 victory.
The KLER Pizza Factory Player of the Game award is given to Lilly for not only the interception return for touchdown, but for also for his continual efforts to bottle up Husky receivers and take away the favorite targets of any of the three Marsing quarterbacks that saw action during the home coming celebration.
In Volleyball, the Maniacs would thump league rival Grangeville for the second time this season. This time in the Orofino gym, the Maniacs would put the Bulldogs away in straight sets, 25-20; 25-21 and 25-22. Kaycee Hudson had a fantastic night with seven kills and 13 digs. Orofino now stands atop the league with a 3-0 mark, 6-1 overall.
Both Lilly and Hudson will receive a certificate for a personal pizza and medium soft drink of their choice from the Pizza Factory.
