During the Central Idaho League girls district basketball hosted by Orofino on Tuesday night Feb. 9 it was a rubber match battle to try and extend the season between the Lady Maniacs and St. Maries. It was thought that whoever might have the strongest inside play and give second or even third attempts at the bucket would have the best chance of coming away with a win.

However, it was the bench play of the Lumberjacks that would steal the show as substitutions would account for 18 of the 53 points on the evening. St. Maries would go on to defeat Orofino in the last 45 seconds of the game by a score of 53-51.

The Lady Maniacs had their own answer for superb bench play as Kaylynn Johnson would enter the game in the first quarter and contributed with offensive and defensive rebounds along with several take-aways. Her biggest play was a sweet free throw line jumper with 25 seconds remaining to pull the Maniacs within two in the final period giving the home team an opportunity.

It would be the 12th point for the senior and the last points scored for the home team. With the loss Orofino Maniac basketball closes out a fantastic season with high hopes for the future.

For her work on the court, Kaylynn will receive the KLER Pizza Factory Player of the game honor and is awarded a certificate for a personal pizza and medium soft drink of her choice from the Pizza Factory.
