Let the tennis matches begin…

The OHS Maniac Tennis team opened their 2021 spring tennis season playing sixteen matches against Culdesac High School in Lewiston last Friday. The Maniacs consisting of new players along with returning players came away with an outstanding overall team league win of ten matches to six losses. Tennis match results are as follows:

Boys Singles:

(OHS)Rayce Miller, playing singles for the first time, wins both matches: OHS (8-5 & 5-3 pro-sets)defeats Culdesac; (OHS) Connor Potratz, playing in his first year, also wins his first singles pro-set match: OHS (8-3 pro-set) defeats Culdesac; (OHS) Zachary Peterson, rounding out the Boys’ Singles matches, resulted in a well-played match even though losing to Culdesac: 4-8 (pro-set).

Girls Singles:

(OHS) Madeline De La Cruz, only Girls Singles completed match vs Culdesac: 4-8 (pro-set/loss); (OHS) Samantha Mayberry’s match was called due to darkness.

Boy’s Doubles:

(OHS) Nathan Martinez & Connor Potratz in a close-played match: (7-8 pro-set/loss); (OHS) DJ Somers & Jase Anderson come away with two match wins: (8-4/pro-set#1) & (8-7/pro-set#2). In match #2, Jase & DJ came back from behind at 2-7 set score to win their pro-set match 8-7.

Girls Doubles:

(OHS) Samantha Mayberry & Madeline De La Cruz finished their pro-set match with a set score of 1-8 (loss)… good try girls.

Mixed Doubles:

(OHS) Zachary Peterson & Shaylee Taylor, combining for the first time, finished their pro-set match with a set score of 0-8/loss. Many good points played during their match. (OHS) Nathan Martinez & Samantha Mayberry combined their efforts to finish their pro-set match with a set score of 8-5/win.

Final Results Overall:

The OHS Maniac Tennis Team wins overall league match with ten match wins to six match losses.

On behalf of the Orofino High School Maniac Tennis Program, the coaches thank you student athletes and parents for participating and supporting this great sport of high school tennis. Our roster is filled with great students, great attitudes and great possibilities! Maniac Tennis travels to Lewiston High School this Thursday with matches beginning at 4 p.m. Maniac Tennis will host Culdesac High School this Friday with matches beginning at 12 noon. We invite you to please come watch and enjoy this unique sport of high school tennis. Spring Break (March 31) welcomes open-court free tennis lessons for the following age groups: middle school grades 7-8 (Wed. from 1 – 2 p.m.) and community adult members (Wed. from 5 – 6 p.m.).
