I hope your summer has been as fun and relaxing as possible with all the concerns we have with the COVID virus. It is now time to start thinking about cross country. I would like to invite you to be a part of our team this year. The team is a district team so runners from both Timberline and Orofino may join and run on the team.

Cross country is such an awesome sport. You will definitely improve your body, develop teamwork and learn to set goals in order to reach personal accomplishments. It will also help reduce stress, help develop your self-discipline, and you get to meet some pretty cool people. I think you will find the benefits of cross country will improve many areas of your life outside of athletics. If you want a sport that will help you get more than a medal, cross country is the one to choose.

Our first practice will be held Monday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. If you are unable to make this practice, please let me know. I will accept students until the end of the first week of school. We will be warming up and doing our first time trial that night at Deyo Reservoir. I will also be handing out required paperwork. We will need to maintain six feet of space during the meeting and I will ask all people attending to wear a mask. Also I would ask that you limit the number of people you bring to this practice to one parent and the athlete.

There will be a lot of unknowns this year due to the COVID pandemic. I am not sure how many meets we will have. A meet schedule will be handed out to the athletes as soon as it is finalized, but expect changes all season. Students will be allowed to be dual athletes (take two sports at the same time). Coaches will work with dual athletes to make sure they can handle both sports. Call me if that is something you are interested in.

If you are unsure about cross country, I suggest that you commit to the first week. If you decide not to continue after that time, please notify me of your decision to withdraw. I will respect it.

This season will be a great learning and athletic experience for all the students involved. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call me. (School 435-4411) (Home 435-4698) or email sellerb@jsd171.org . As information becomes available, it will be forwarded to all interested students who sign up. I also put a lot of information on the Timberline cross country facebook page. Here is a link to that page https://www.facebook.com/timberline.crosscountry.1
