Larry Borders

Larry “Boze” Borders passed away peacefully at his home in Kamiah, Idaho, Sunday, February 14, 2021, at the age of 79.

Larry was born July 29, 1941, in Orofino, Idaho to Ted & Viola Borders. He was raised in Fraser, Idaho and attended school in Fraser and Weippe.

Larry will always be remembered for his High School Glory Days where he played football, basketball, and baseball. His football jersey was retired and displayed in the Weippe High School trophy case until the school was closed.

In 1962 Larry married Frances “Lee” Bell (Hamilton) and together they had three children, Diane, Debbie and Gary.

They were later divorced.

On July 1, 1988, Larry married Louise Engle in Caldwell, Idaho. With this union he gained his son Steven Ball.

Larry and Louise made their home in Kamiah, Idaho until she passed away in March of 2004.

Larry and Louise made their life about adventure. They danced, bowled, fished, camped, hunted, and cooked together! They were well known for their hospitality and large family get togethers.

Our dad had an amazing love for life, his family, community, and the woods.

His son Steven said it best when he said, “Larry always made you feel like you were important because he believed you were”. His door was always open, and he would say to everyone “you don’t need an appointment to come here”.

A true Legend does not adequately describe our dad. People that knew him will tell you he was unforgettable in all of the things he loved: coaching Little League, playing his country music with friends and with the Old Time Fiddlers, bowling, operating heavy equipment, building logging road, and cooking, were all things he excelled at.

Larry is survived by his children Diane Storey of Lewiston, Debbie (Santos) Miranda of Pasco, WA, Gary Borders of Kamiah, Steven (Lydia) Ball of Kamiah, his stepdaughter Cindy (John) Stieger of Kamiah, brother Marvin Sam (Karen) Borders of Lewiston and Ed (Nancy) Borders of Orofino, 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Louise, parents Ted and Viola, sisters Helen Smith and Gail Hibbs, stepdaughter Linda, stepson Mickey and grandson Dustin Decann.

Sadly, his brother Fred Borders passed away on May 22, 2021.

The children of Larry will be forever grateful to his granddaughter Roxanne Steiger for the time she spent with our dad.

Roxanne did all of his shopping, attended concerts, recorded him singing and took many pictures that we will all treasure for years to come.

We will be celebrating the lives of brothers Larry and Fred on June 26 at Fraser Park in Fraser, Idaho at 1 p.m.

The celebration will include a potluck, live country music (if you ever played music with Dad please bring your instrument and join in), lots of fun stories and a toast.
