John Scoles

John Raymond Scoles, 72, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Aug. 8. He was born Oct. 9, 1948 in Lewiston to Raymond and Nellie (Nelson) Scoles of Orofino. After graduating in 1968, he joined the Marine Corp. After his discharge, John moved back to the area.

When he could, he enjoyed the outdoor activities the area offers, like fishing, hunting, camping and even panning for gold. He enjoyed talking on his ham radio with friends he made by joining the local Ham Radio Operator’s Club.

John was a devoted son and brother, also a loving father. Preceding him in death were his Father, Raymond in 2012 and Mother, Nellie in 2016. He is survived by his brother Ted and wife Lorrie (Walrath) Scoles of North Pole, AK., brother Steve Scoles and wife Shirley (Davis) of Orofino, brother Jim and wife Kristi (Stewart) Scoles of North Pole, AK, and sister Deena Scoles of Moscow. He is also survived by his children, Stephanie (Scoles) Pollard in Australia, Mandi Scoles of Eugene, OR, Candi (Scoles) Foy of Emmett, ID, Henry Gallegos of Fontana, CA, and Doug Courson of Kamiah.

He is also survived by cousins, one aunt on his father’s side, an aunt and uncle on his mom’s side; nieces, nephews, great niece, great nephews, grandchildren and one great grandchild.

There will be a Memorial Service at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. After the service we will meet at the Ponderosa Restaurant’s Banquet Room. Food arrangements are still pending. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Community Thrift Shop locally or any other organization who helps people in need.
