Dan McGee, 67, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at his Lewiston home, from a heart attack.
He was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Orofino, to Earl and Jean McGee.
Dan’s family lived in Peck, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1971 as a 12-year senior.
Dan’s career as a truck driver took him all over Idaho and the United States.
His many hobbies included motorcycle racing, amateur aviation, hunting, fishing, swimming, berry picking and gold prospecting. He also liked to read, play chess, play cards and listen to rock and roll.
Dan married Janet Wise in 1988. He became forever dad to Shanon and Travis.
He loved his grandkids very much. He was a great grandpa. He took the girls on walks, fed the ducks, looked for special rocks, took them camping, showed them the stars, took them for ice cream, and taught them how to start a campfire and look for gold.
After 22 years, Dan and Janet divorced, but remained close.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Jean (Bacus) and W. Earl McGee; and sister Reva J. McGee.
Dan is survived by Janet; children Shanon and Travis; grandchildren Lacy, Britney, Mary and Dillin; brothers Mick (Darla) of Orofino and Rick (Tammy Gilmore) of Orofino; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Peck Community Center, to be followed by a potluck dinner. Burial of ashes at the Orofino Cemetery will follow at a later date.
