Calvin Mitchell Cleveland, 63, of Orofino, was welcomed in to the loving arms of Jesus on August 22, 2021 at his home with his sister, Doris, by his side and the love of his life, Sher Cooper, nearby.
Calvin was born, April 3, 1958, to Christa (Schilling) and Wayne Cleveland in Lewiston, Idaho. He was on the Maniac Varsity football team and graduated from Orofino High School in 1977.
Calvin reported for duty in the United States Army on June 24, 1977. He spent 16 months on the DMZ in Korea. While on active duty, he received his Parachutist Badge, by (as he always said), “Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.” He was honorably discharged from active duty in June of 1981. In January of 1982 he enlisted in the Army National Guard in Orofino and served for two years. Calvin always felt honored to have had a chance to serve his country. Calvin was a true patriot.
Calvin was a large fan of the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks. He loved to play chess and pool and was quite good at both of them. He loved all animals and they sure loved him back, never saw an animal that didn’t love Calvin.
Calvin worked for 15 years as a mail carrier in Orofino. He really enjoyed this job, and cared so much for his customers.
Calvin had an infectious laugh, you always knew he was in the room by his laugh. So many have said how much they will miss it.
Calvin’s family and friends were so important to him. He is survived by his “forever and always” Love of 18 years, Sherry Cooper; brothers, Larry (Renee), and Joe Cleveland. His baby sister, Doris Cleveland, daughter Layci (Chad) Peer, granddaughters Dally and Mesa Peer, his bonus daughter Brandi Irby and four bonus grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his best friends, Alan and Dori Hughan.
On Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. we will honor Calvin’s life at the Shot Glass in Orofino. Please bring a favorite dish to share.
