Happenings - church campers

A group of young people from Weippe Wesleyan Church are heading for camp in Oregon, with Jonie Head providing transportation. Back row (l to r) Cameron Summerfield, Johnathan Halle, Jonie Head, Anna Stroup, and in front Daniel Stieger.

The Weippe Wesleyan Church offered a dinner Saturday evening of pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and cole slaw. Afterwards there was a desert auction, which provided lots of laughter along with delicious pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies and more. People were generous with the bidding and proceeds of this evening will go toward youth group activities.

There was a good turnout Friday for the Rodeo meeting at the rodeo grounds. Grand Marshalls this year are Gary and Shelby Stewart. A member said the announcer’s stand could use a paint job, he volunteered to do it, paint will be purchased for this. Bleachers were discussed, and options reviewed, however more info, and funds, are needed before a final decision. Ken Hengen has created a gofundme for bleacher funds. Go to Wild Weippe Rodeo on facebook to donate.

Raffle tickets are on sale for $1 each. Raffle is for three $100 prizes. More prizes will be added up until the Rodeo. The Rodeo is the third weekend in August and Sunday of that weekend the raffle winners will be drawn. You can get tickets from Millie at the Elkhorn.

Geneaology info at the Museum Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

Dirty Fingers Garden Club meets June 27 at the Weippe Library.

I was sorry to hear of Minnie Weidner’s passing. She made the best sauerkraut, and had good stories to tell. I used to buy sauerkraut from her and enjoyed her stories. I remember the time a young bear was coming around her place to visit, not something Minnie was happy about. She called Fish & Game, they brought a barrel shaped trap, trapped him, but unfortunately he managed to escape the trap. Minnie was quite annoyed with the broken trap.

If you have something you would like in the paper, give me a call.
