Idaho Public Health is pleased to announce the selection of Don Gardner as chairman of the newly created North Idaho Healthcare Coalition. Currently Don Gardner serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator in Clearwater County.

The coalition was created due to new federal and state standards. This coalition was created from the two existing healthcare coalitions in North and Central Idaho. It includes all 10 northern Idaho counties and three tribes.

The new coalition is a collaboration of hospitals, healthcare organizations, public health departments, emergency medical services, emergency management agencies, community partners, and other stakeholders working together to care for the medical needs of the region before, during, and after an emergency.

Being a new coalition, one of the top priorities is to create the new organizational structure. As the coalition moves forward it will work to meet federal guidelines to develop the capabilities for healthcare and medical readiness, response and the delivery of services.

The new coalition will plan, train, and exercise for the risks and needs of this region.
