The public is invited to attend the Weippe City Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. at Weippe City Hall, 623 Main Street N.
The gavel will be passed by the longest serving Mayor in Idaho, Norman C. Steadman, 53 years as Mayor of Weippe to incoming Mayor, Ronald Larson. Mayor Larson will take the oath of office of Mayor, after having served on the City Council since 2004.
Since serving as Mayor, Norm Steadman has seen many changes and welcomed these changes to better the lives of City of Weippe residents, starting with installing a city wide water and sewer system with multiple improvement projects; laying out streets and signage; establishing a police presence; and establishing a mini park complete with public restrooms, most of which was done within the first 10 years. In the decades following, Mayor Steadman coordinated a police partnership with the Clearwater County Sheriff to increase police protection “on the hilltop,” brought paved streets to the City of Weippe, and oversaw a highway improvement grant that produced enhanced street lighting and sidewalks.
Several partnerships with local entities allowed the City to help build a Senior Center with a meal site; the Weippe Discovery Center and Library; The Deyo Reservoir Recreation site with Campgrounds; and the long running Camas Festival and Retreat to Weippe Fun Run.
