Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced Investigators with his Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Unit were involved in an incident that resulted in the death of a subject near Weippe Wednesday morning, June 10.
According to a Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office report, Jerry M. Bethel, age 59, has been identified as the man shot by Law Enforcement on June 10 in Weippe. The incident occurred while serving a search warrant at 244 Rouleau Loop, in Weippe. According to the sheriff’s office report, Bethel was a guest on the property at the time, but had previously been transient. The incident is still being investigated by the Region Two Officer Involved Critical Incident Task Force.
According to a report from the Attorney General’s office, members of the unit, along with officers from several local law enforcement agencies, served a search warrant at a home near Weippe around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday. While securing the scene, officers encountered a man who brandished a handgun. Preliminary evidence indicates the man initially pointed the gun at himself and later pointed it at officers. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the man. The subject died at the scene. The officers were not injured.
The incident is under investigation by the Region Two Officer Involved Critical Incident Task Force.
