James Garrison has declared and filed his candidacy for Clearwater County Sheriff for the Republican primary May 19, 2020. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from California State University.
Garrison is a conservative Christian Republican that has lived in Clearwater County for 26 years.
Garrison served three years in the U.S. Army and over 29 years in law enforcement and received many commendations for his police work. He has four P.O.S.T. (Peace officer standard training) from California, Washington and Idaho. He has worked at the Lewiston, Idaho juvenile prison and the Idaho State prison in Orofino, Idaho and has over 500 hours of S.W.A.T training from the F.B.I.
He has worked as a federal law enforcer for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service in park ranger positions. Garrison has worked in all law enforcement divisions, which includes; patrol, traffic, narcotics, detectives, intelligence, internal affairs and special enforcement sections.
Garrison was a field training officer with the Fresno, California Police Department. He was also, with the WSU (Washington State University) Police Department. He has used his detective expertise in all divisions which include: burglary, robbery, homicide, sex crimes, kidnapping, all frauds, arson, juvenile crimes and narcotics.
