In a special called meeting April 26, Trustees of Joint School District 171 met with Architect Jerry Brotnov of Clarkston, regarding plans for the new classrooms proposed for Timberline Schools.
Initially, trustees had seen floorplans to include four new classrooms to replace the two which were damaged this past winter as well as two more, with enclosed hallways and no stairs, utilizing ADA ramps throughout the new section, and adding ADA accessible restrooms.
Given the short span of time to build before the weather changes, and difficulty in locating or receiving the materials needed, Brotnov advised to do the excavation and foundation work as soon as possible and to build the outside shell of the new addition and two classrooms this year.
The other classrooms could then be added one at a time or both at the same time when prices may not be as high as they are now and the school discovers exactly how much more space is needed.
Trustees approved hiring Brotnov and proceeding with the plans presented. Brotnov indicated he needed two to three weeks to finish the design, have plans approved by the state and put it out to bid.
