Weippe News

The Weippe mobile food pantry provides food to those in need each month on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This project is hosted by White Pine Rebekah Lodge members, spouses and friends. The food is provided by the Idaho Food Bank out of Lewiston. They provide food to those on the hill whether it is Pierce, Headquarters, Fraser or Weippe. Due to Covid-19 the food pantry is handled as a drive thru. Patrons drive up the food is loaded into their vehicles so there is little to no personal exposure. The food is distributed based on individual households. So, if there are a number of family members living in the same household (parents, kid and grandkids) they are given just one set of boxes.

As part of the Idaho Food Bank, we are now distributing an additional food box purchased by the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program. Recipients of the food must meet an income level set by the Federal Government. All other Idaho Food Bank items are provided to all with no income level requirement. Because we are a drive thru – we begin distribution of the food once it has been offloaded.

The truck generally arrives around 9 a.m. and we are distributing food as early as 9:30 a.m. and we will stay and hand out food until 11 a.m. unless we run out earlier. We are there to reach out and help our friends and neighbor in our local community. The next food distribution will be March 23.

Pierce Community

Center

The Pierce Community Center is excited to moveforward with the preparation of the upcoming summer season and reopening of their pool. With the bond measure passing for the new boiler system and roof, and Idaho slowing moving into reopen, they have no reason to believe the pool will not open as normal this season. They are currently seeking applications for lifeguards for this summer season. Applicants need to be at least 16 years of age or older and a strong swimmer.

No lifeguard experience is necessary, training will be provided prior to certification, which is necessary for the position. For further information or applications please contact Brandy at the Pierce Community Center during regular business hours, or the Facebook page where Brandy or Katherine are available for questions you may have. Applications can be picked up at the Community center and will need to be dropped off in person during regular business hours. Remember our new business hours are Monday-Thursday 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and Friday’s 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Any events, news, or information you would like to share in the Clearwater Tribune under the Pierce/Weippe news, please be sure to contact Brandy Denison by social media or email at mrsfs24@gmail.com prior to the deadline on Monday to make the following Wednesday paper.
