Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy (IDYCA)
Last week, we started the 2020 fall semester of the Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy. The health, safety, and well-being of our students is our number one priority and the foundation of our program. We registered 128 students this session, three of whom have tested positive for COVID-19. These students were quarantined immediately following their positive test results, and they have subsequently been released to return home with their parents. They will be allowed to return in a future cycle.
We have currently tested 100 students and are in the process of testing the remainder, of which, only three students have tested positive. All staff members have been tested and their results were negative. We test 25 students a day, and receive the results within 24 hours, from SMH-CVH labs.
Strict safety procedures are in place to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19, and include daily medical screenings and temperature checks of all staff and students. All staff and students wear masks, which are laundered daily.
The education building is cleaned/disinfected twice a day and the Health District is providing guidance to students and staff on proper hygiene techniques. Every student is provided PPE, hand sanitizer and cleaning products.
The risk of exposure to the greater Pierce community by an IDYCA student is extremely low, given the secluded nature of the program. Students remain on campus during the duration of the program, and prior to the start of this semester, we decided to suspend all community outreach projects.
This new class is in week two of Acclimation and coming along well!
Closed campus remains on going for Class 20-21 which means they do not have a Family Day or Home Pass scheduled. So, we encourage all our supporters to send snail mail to the incoming class of Cadets. If you know someone in the incoming class, simply address your letter with their first and last name to the address below.
If you would like to send a note of encouragement for any young person that may not receive mail, please address the envelope to “Any Cadet.” (Youth CAN send and receive mail during Acclimation, and every day until graduation.) Our address is: IDYCA 117 Timberline Dr. Pierce, ID 83546. You may follow the Academy’s Facebook page to see the progress of the class and also achievements from former Cadets. Their Facebook page is NGYCP Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy.
The Wild Weippe Rodeo is a go Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16! Time to start asking for volunteers! We need help in all areas as a few members have retired from the rodeo. If you can give us a few hours of your time during the rodeo that would be great! We are needing help in the kitchen, also for getting the Rodeo grounds ready! If interested please send us a message on the Wild Weippe Rodeo Facebook page or contact Kenneth Hengen and we will get back with you!
Headquarters, ID, Reunion Update! It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Annual Headquarters Reunion over Labor Day Weekend (Sept 4-6, 2020). Due to the recent increases in positive COVID cases in Clearwater County and around the country, we felt the health and safety of our Headquarters families needed to take priority.
There are also a lot of preparations that need to be done in advance and with the uncertainty of what restrictions there may be in place by then, we just didn’t want to risk having to cancel it closer to the date. We contacted Custom Ink and asked them to cancel the shirt/hoodie orders for this year so that we can use the same logo for next year. Those of you that placed an order will receive a full refund in 3 -7 business days, depending on your banks.
We are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused you and our hopes are that with the advanced notice you will be able to plan your own Labor Day Celebration this year. We pray that everyone stays healthy and we look forward to an awesome Reunion next year over Labor Day Weekend!! Your Headquarters Reunion Committee, Jackie, Teresa and Tami.
