Dear Editor:
Traveling down the Greer Grade is a drive we make quite often and now that the snow is gone all of the stuff people toss out their windows was really starting to show.
This is not only true for that roadway but all along the roads in our area. The day we travelled down was a Monday and if I recall correctly that weekend before had been a wet, windy, cold one.
On this particular day we were pleasantly surprised to see that all that trash had been picked up and was now bagged ready for disposal. The cadets of the Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy had spent their day picking up the stuff others just toss out their window.
I think it’s easy for us to forget what a treasure and asset we have by having the Idaho Youth ChalleNGfe Academy in our area. As part of their program all cadets must complete so many hours of community service. For us that service shows by cleaning up our roadways.
The really sad part of this story is that someone had tossed out a bag, wrappers and cup from a fast-food restaurant in the short time it took us to go to Lewiston and back. What is it about our roadways being someone’s trash bin? Take that stuff home and dispose of it in your home trash.
Thank you to the cadets of the academy for all you do in our communities.
