Dear Editor:

We traveled to Weippe on Saturday, Oct. 9, to say goodbye to a man we have known all his life. People lined the streets on both sides to watch the procession that was about to start. It began with an empty Finke Logging truck with a picture of Bill Jared on the front with a caption that said, “Billy’s Last Ride”.

That truck was followed by empty trucks with their trailers up that came from all over the area. They were there to pay their respects to a man who had spent his life driving trucks to get logs to the mill.

As the last truck passed in front of us the cars lined up to follow the procession to the Weippe Cemetery for Billy’s Last Ride. It was evident what people thought of Bill. I have never seen so many people turn out to honor a man who so many people liked. Rest in Peace, Bill Jared!
