My name is Michelle Sonnen and I am the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at Kamiah Elementary School. I wanted to express my appreciation for one of your deputies. It was a few weeks ago when a deputy waved to one of my three-year-old students as he was being dropped off at preschool. The child is enamored with policemen and firemen. The deputy flipped his vehicle around and pulled into the preschool parking lot, came over to the child, told him “hello” and gave him some great advice, “go study very hard and learn as much as you can, so you can grow up to be a sheriff’s deputy too!” The child was overjoyed, hooting and hollering all day about ‘Deputy Walt’. Another child, a little girl was talked to by the same deputy that morning, she was so excited she put stars (deputy badges) all over every paper she did for a week.

Thank you for training these men to be men of character. Men who understand that these little guys need heroes. Law enforcement should be the biggest heroes to our children, the people who “Protect and Serve”. What an awesome example of a hero in action. Give this ‘Deputy Walt’ a high five from Mrs. Sonnen. Actually, send him back to talk to my kiddos about safety! We would love a visit from a gentle law enforcer.

With Gratitude and Great RESPECT,

Mrs. Michelle Sonnen
