The Memorial Day weekend is a special time for honoring loved ones and friends who have passed away. The flags that wave gently in the breeze at our local cemeteries is a way of recognizing how much our communities care.

The Fraser Boosters 4-H Club is to be thankful for placing the flags at the Fraser Cemetery. The Avenue of Flags at the Orofino Cemetery is a wonderful sight to behold, and the people who volunteer to install them are to be thanked for their efforts. What a proud tradition this is!

Last Tuesday when Steve and I returned from Orofino we stopped by Steve and Carol Green’s cabin near the Deyo Reservoir, to touch base with them. They had attended Bill Jackson’s Celebration of Life at the Fraser Community Center, but we didn’t have time to visit with them.

Their daughter, Trina Scott, her husband, Ryan and their daughters, Grier and Finley were to arrive on Thursday from their home in Coeur d’Alene. Travis Green, his wife, Torri and their daughters, Hadley and Amelia planned to arrive on Friday.

Amelia was born on May 24, 2012 so the family planned to celebrate her seventh birthday at the cabin on Friday night.

On Saturday, May 25, Steve and Carol invited friends and family to a potluck dinner to celebrate the life of Steve’s brother, Mike. Mike grew up on the farm on Green Road and graduated from the Weippe High School in 1969.

Have you stopped in at Cyndy’s First Stop Java in Weippe to see how the construction of her Little Free Library is coming along? Cyndy plans to register her creation when she is finished.

The Little Free Library website tells about the founder, Todd Bols, and how he started the first free library. We have visited with Cyndy several times at the coffee shop and love looking at the progress of her creative little library.

Congratulations to Macoy Boyer for his participation in the Special Olympics held on May 18. He finished first in the long jump and shot put and second in the 100 meter run. Macoy is a sophomore at Orofino High School.

Congratulations to the newly elected members of the Clearwater County Free Library District (CCFLD), Rosan Monahan, Jim Everett, Ellen Tomlinson and Ann Lozar. Thanks goes out to our local newspaper for keeping the voters of Clearwater County informed on the issues that involved both the CCFLD and the Clearwater Memorial Public Library.

Happy Birthday Greetings go out to Cora Rose Harris on June 6, Clint Boyer on June 7 and Bobbie Boyer on June 10.
