It’s been a quiet week here in the Fraser Community. The weather has stayed cool and we have had several days when snow showers moved through the area. During this time of year, any time the sun shines, it feels so good to spend some time outside. Right now, the fields are covered with snow and it’s easy to spot the wild life that live in this area.
This morning we saw a coyote hunting on our hay field. As soon as it heard a vehicle on the road it disappeared.
A flock of geese flew over our house as we were eating breakfast, heading east, maybe for the wet land east of Weippe, or the Deyo Reservoir.
Dr. Duane Wolverton’s story about “The Irwin Packer Story” was just the kind of human interest article we like to read. What a history he has of helping people around here. Can he be talked into doing more articles for the Clearwater Tribune?
Linda Beard returned my phone call yesterday and we had time to catch up on what she and Mike are doing. They are on a bowling league and Linda is looking forward to golfing as soon as the weather warms up. Their temperature in Arizona was 32 degrees on Monday morning. I was surprised that it got down that low, but she said it warms up during the day.
Sharon McHone reported that her and Donita’s store, Material Girls, has been busy. They have some new classes planned, so if you are looking for something to do while the weather is cold, check in with them.
An article entitled, “Why So Negative” written by Margaret Stortz came to my attention this morning. It was written in 1993.
Margaret wrote “we Americans lately seem consumed by the need to lacerate ourselves for all the mistakes we have made in the past, during our countries development. No one can deny that many things should have been done differently. But rather than looking toward the future and anticipating the frontiers of knowledge we can explore, we seem determined to focus upon resentment and grievances of every strip.
To learn from mistakes, to re-walk some paths is one thing, but to engage in continuous self-punishment with little recognition of our inner light is to create a dark, demoralizing future, not only for ourselves as a people, but as individuals as well. If it is true that we become what we think, what happens when we dwell on castigation, or an angry, accusatory form of mind? What kind of empowerment can that provide?
To narrow our view so myopically that we name ourselves as victims, or victimizers, is to create the impression that we’re not up to anything better. This is not true, we are all connected, so why aren’t we holding that before us more prominently?”
Linda and Mike Beard send Happy Birthday Greetings to their granddaughter Lillian Cape on Feb. 3. Lillian will be six years old.
The Fraser Community sends Happy Birthday Greetings to Kay Stone on Feb. 4, and to Theresa Luna on Feb. 8.
