The annual inter-denominational Christian Seder-Passover Meal will be held Wednesday, April 12, at 6 p.m. in St. Theresa’s Little Flower Room, located at 446 Brown Avenue, Orofino. A 5 p.m. Mass will be held before the meal.
This will be a potluck dinner, with the main course provided by St. Theresa’s.
The Seder Meal celebrates the Jewish feast of the Passover, which Christian tradition recalls as the Last Supper, when Jesus gathered for the last time with the twelve apostles.
The Seder is a ritual performed by a community or by multiple generations of a family, involving a retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
Traditionally, families and friends gather in the evening to read the text of the Haggadah, which contains the narrative of the Israelite exodus from Egypt, special blessings and rituals, commentaries from the Talmud, and special Passover songs.
The Catholic parishes in Orofino and Kamiah have gathered with the Orofino Methodist Church and Ascension Lutheran Church for this celebration every year.
Sign-up sheets for the dinner and potluck contributions will be in the vestibule of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
