The Nez Perce Tribe Language Department will host a community event on Monday, Oct. 14 to recognize Indigenous Peoples Day. Featuring a presentation on the stars in Nimiipuutimt, cultural displays and information, food, giveaways and more, this evening event from 5-7 p.m. is free and open to the community.

Stella Sammaripa, the Language Program technician for Kamiah, hopes that this inaugural event will grow each year in a celebration of indigenous culture and heritage.

People wishing to obtain a space for their beading or other traditional arts and crafts are welcome to contact Stella at 208-494-4232.

This year for the first time the Indigenous Idaho Alliance, Native American communities of Boise and surrounding areas, and representatives of the Five Tribes of Idaho at 10 a.m. on Oct. 14, in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building to celebrate the reading of Governor Brad Little’s Proclamation of “Indigenous Peoples Day” in Idaho.
