Do you know that it is the prerogative of God to command and it is man’s duty to obey? The Bible says, “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof”
Everything is God’s by reason of creation. Being created by God, man has a duty to obey God’s commands. However, God never forces obedience.
The Bible says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father… we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…” (Romans8:14-17KJV).
As children of God and joint heirs of heaven with Christ, the duty of obedience is bestowed upon us. In obeying all of God’s commandments we reveal a spirit of true love for God. Jesus’ life and work upon this earth was in the spirit of love and obedience to His Father. As “sons of God” ought we to do the same. The Bible says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John14:15KJV).
Our faith in God and God’s faith in us should be seen in every word and action. Christ died for everyone because He had faith in every living soul. He offered Himself (John3:16KJV) even though He knew that many would not accept His outpouring of love. Not every heart accepts Him, but every single heart can. Jesus says to whoever chooses to respond to Him “…and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John6:37KJV). But can God respond to those who don’t respond to the grace He offers? Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John10:27KJV). He is waiting for every soul to respond. How long must He wait?
