Do you know what it’s like to be in the presence of God? We can only imagine but the Bible gives us some fiery descriptions. When God came down and gave Moses the Ten Commandments, the Bible says, burned in fire as He descended upon it (Exodus 19:18 KJV) and all Israel saw His glory as a devouring fire (Exodus 24:17 KJV). The Bible also describes God as a “consuming fire” (Deuteronomy 4:24; 9:3 KJV). And yet, Moses went into His presence at the burning bush (Exodus 3:2-5 KJV). How is that? Well, God tells us “This is the way, walk ye in it” (Isaiah 30:21 KJV).

Isaiah asks, “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off” (Isaiah 33:14-17 KJV). Righteousness is right doing and knowledge of right doing can only come from the Bible. Then, God’s promise to us is “…when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isaiah 43:2 KJV).

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are an example of this promise fulfilled. They chose to be thrown into a fiery furnace heated seven times hotter than normal rather than bow down to an image. Why? Because Jesus was with them in the fire (Daniel 3:19-28 KJV). This promise of His presence is for us today, as well. Sometimes our trials may seem overwhelming but Jesus will be with us if we hold on to Him and remember His promises. Jesus says, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39 KJV). Let’s search and learn of Jesus because when He comes again, it will be a fiery event (Nahum 1:5-6 KJV) and only those who follow His counsel will be able to stand.
