IDFG seeks comments on elk plan revision

Idaho Fish and Game plans a series of open house meetings to talk about the ongoing elk management plan revision. Learn about the process, ask questions of Fish and Gameís wildlife managers, and share your thoughts about statewide management direction. We need your input!

The Clearwater Regional open house BBQ meetings will be:

Lewiston on Thursday, May 16, from 4 -7 p.m., at Hereth Park- 1534 Powers Ave.

Kamiah on Thursday, May 23, from 4 -7 p.m., at Riverside Park- Hwy. 12 next to Clearwater Bridge

Another way to stay informed about the process is to sign up for e-mail updates-- also available on the Fish and Game home page at  www.fishandgame.idaho.gov.

If you plan to attend one of the open house meetings, please RSVP to the regional fish and game office at (208) 799-5010.

Idahoís current elk management plan is more than 12 years old. Starting in late 2011, Fish and Game launched an effort to revise and update that plan. Strategies in the plan will be driven by public expectations and changes in elk populations.

Revisions being considered are based largely on a survey of Idaho elk hunters in the spring and summer of 2012, and in part on changes in habitat, predation and agricultural depredation conflicts.

Comments are due by May 31. Comments may be submitted during public meetings; to wildlife managers at regional offices; by e-mail to idfginfo@idfg.idaho.gov; or by mail to Elk Plan Comments, P.O. Box 25, Boise, ID  83707.
