Morgan Faith Keane,
8, Orofino
Morgan Faith Keane was granted her perfect heart on March 17,
2012
at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in the arms of her mother and
father. Morgan was born on
April 14, 2003
with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and courageously fought through
open heart surgeries and lengthy hospitalizations.
Morgan’s life
would seem short to many, but for those who were touched by her,
understood that the quality of existence far exceeds quantity of
time in which you live it. Her contagious smile and sparkling eyes
could melt the hearts of those around her and though she was small
in size she had a big voice.
She possessed
strength, perseverance, the ability to overcome incredible odds and
physical challenges. Her courage led us to believe that each day is
a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. She
enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She looked
forward to swimming and boating in the summer, roasting hot dogs and
trick or treating in the fall, making snowmen and sledding in the
winter, stomping puddles and celebrating her birthday in the spring.
Morgan loved
animals of any kind, but had a special spot in her heart for cats,
especially tigers. She was an amazing artist, loved school and was
eager to learn. She was very proud of her Honor Roll ribbon she
earned for the 2nd Quarter of 3rd grade. She
admired her older brother, Braeden and was a proud big sister to
Danica and Macy.
Morgan is
survived by her loving parents, Dan and Angela (Marvin) Keane;
Brother Braeden and Sisters Danica and Macy, all of Orofino. She is
also survived by Paternal Grandparents Peter and Karen Keane,
Centreville, VA; Maternal Grandparents Chris and Susie Marvin,
Orofino, and Tyler and Rosanna Kanetake, Kaneohe, HI.
Also,
Great-Grandparents Charles and Florence Ricci, Pompano Beach, FL;
Alice Maybury, East Longmeadow, MA; Homer and Barbara Marvin;
Darlene Anderst; and Sandy Davis, all of Lewiston, ID; Aunts Nicole
(Justin) Louchart, Lewiston, ID; Stephanie Daniel, Centreville, VA;
Heather Gillespie, Portsmouth, VA; Uncles Aaron Marvin, Whitefish,
MT; Matt (Angela) Keane, Washington DC; Cousins Grady Louchart and
Taylor Keane. Morgan also leaves behind an extensive medical team,
too numerous to mention, that provided Morgan with love and dignity
in her life and also in her death.
She was preceded
in death by her beloved cat, Lucy.
There will be a
celebration of her life Saturday,
March 24, 2012
at 1 p.m.
in the
Orofino
High School
gym. A potluck will follow at the National Guard Armory,
Orofino,
Idaho.
At the request of her sister Danica we invite you to wear pink,
Morgan’s favorite color.

Beatrice Johnson, 68, Weippe
Beatrice Ann (Harper) Johnson, 68, of Weippe, died Wednesday,
March 14, 2012,
in Lewiston.
She was born
Dec. 9, 1943,
in North Dakota to Charles Robert and Luella Mildred Martin Harper
(McIntosh).
She married
Thomas Lloyd Johnson
June 8, 1960,
in Asotin. They spent the majority of their 43-year marriage a few
miles from Weippe in a house on Johnson Road. After Tommy's death,
Beatrice continued to live in Weippe. Together they raised four
daughters, who all graduated from Timberline High School.
As a teenager,
Beatrice moved with her family from the railroad and farming
community of Eltopia, Wash., to Weippe, and then to the Winters
Creek area near Johnson Road. Bea remembered that their first
visitors were two Johnson brothers (Steve and Tommy) in an old car
that quickly got stuck in the deep snow! Everyone helped to push the
car out of the snowbank and friendships were formed.
Tommy and his
large family soon became regular visitors to the home on Winters
Creek. After Bea and Tommy were married, they made their home on
Johnson Road near the mill site. In this predominantly male
environment, Bea quickly became the matriarch of a large group of
young, rambunctious brothers. Throughout her life, she was
continually called on to support the family with their daily needs.
She could be counted on for a hot meal, clean clothes, bandages and
practical advice. She has been a sister, mother and grandmother to
many who extend far beyond her own family. She was our homemaker.
Later in life, as
the family grew up and moved away, Bea took a job with School
District No. 171 as a cook. She worked at both Timberline and the
Weippe School cafeterias for many years. She enjoyed her interaction
with the students and staff and had many wonderful stories about the
students, which she shared with her own family over the years.
She cared about
the students as if they were her own, just as she cared for many
children from the Weippe area throughout her life.
Beatrice was
preceded in death by her husband, Tommy; brother John Jacobson;
brothers-in-law Eddie Johnson and Jimmy Johnson; son-in-law Monte
Carlson; her parents and parents-in-law; an infant granddaughter;
and grandson Clay Hill.
She is survived
by daughters Darlene McCann and husband Daren of Lewiston, Shannon
Hill and husband Roy of Nezperce, Stephanie Wooderchak and husband
Jim of Waitsburg, Wash., and Jami Rushing and husband Dan of
Dongguan, China; five grandchildren, Jeff Carlson of Ogden, Utah,
Jason Carlson of Lewiston, and Scott Carlson of Portland, Ore.,
Allie Wooderchak of Lewiston and Dustin Wooderchak of Waitsburg,
Wash.; six great-grandchildren; and siblings Luanna McClure of
Anderson, Calif., Ned Jacobson of Davis, Calif., and Deloris
Robertson of Clarkston; and beloved nieces and nephews too many to
list.
The service will
be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Weippe
Wesleyan Church in Weippe. A graveside service will follow at the
Weippe Cemetery.

Jim Finke, 76,
Orofino
Jim Finke of Orofino passed away
Wednesday,
March 7, 2012
at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 76, after
a five year battle with lung cancer. He fought it with great courage
and strength, never complaining. He was born in
Kendrick to Carl Finke and Neva Ware Finke on
Feb. 28, 1936.
Jim moved from Southwick to Orofino in 1952. He graduated from OHS
in 1954 and married Shirley Bullock on
June 19, 1954.
Together they had three sons,
Corby,
Terry, and Randy. Jim and Shirley were married for 57 years.
He started working
in the woods when he was 16 through the summer months for his
father’s company, Carl Finke Logging. He then worked full time once
he graduated from high school. In 1974 he bought into his dad’s
logging company and with his brother, Butch. They formed Finke
Logging Co., Inc. The company worked for Potlatch Corp. throughout
all of these years. The company is now owned by Jim, Butch,
Corby,
Terry and Randy.
Jim was a board
member of A.L.C. and A.L.E. and was a member of Orofino Golf &
Country Club. He was also a member of Clarkston Golf & Country Club
for about 10 years. Being an avid supporter of youth baseball
throughout his years, Jim was especially proud of the fact that he
and others started back up the American Legion program in the early
70’s. Jim was honored in 2007 when he and Shirley were chosen as
Grand Marshals for the Orofino Lumberjack Days.
Jim enjoyed
working on his property, the old Finke homestead in Southwick. His
interests included watching sports, gambling at the casino, golfing,
and gardening with his great-grandson Peyton. Anyone who knew Jim
knew he got great pleasure in razzing his grandkids, though he loved
them dearly. Nothing was more important to him than his family; he
always knew what everyone was up to (thanks to his new found love of
Facebook).
He was raised and
lived by the old school ways, always true to his word, and everyone
had great respect for him. Being the hard worker that he was, Jim
got a little discouraged in his last few years when he was unable to
get out and see the logging jobs and enjoy the woods
he loved so much.

LaFon; children Corby and wife Kelly, Terry and wife Jan, and Randy;

Gary Clifford Sady, 57, Hailey
Gary Clifford Sady of Hailey passed peacefully amid family on
Saturday, Dec.
30, 2011. He will always be remembered by those who knew
him well as a strong, genuine, kind, generous and honest individual.
He was 57.
Gary
was born on
May 20,
1954,
in
Sacramento,
CA
to Gabriel George and Beulah Mae Sady, the third of four children.
Gary
graduated from El Camino High School in 1972 before matriculating to
Yavapai
Junior
College
in
Prescott,
AZ,
to play baseball (and to attend classes when it didn’t interfere
with batting practice).
Upon graduation,
Gary
enrolled at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) in
Lewiston
to play for the LCSC Warriors. During his senior year in 1976,
Gary
earned All-American honors and was the starting catcher for the
first Warrior team to qualify for the NAIA College World Series. The
LCSC team lost the title game that year to finish second in the
nation.
Gary
moved to the
Wood
River
Valley
in 1983. An avid sportsman, Gary enjoyed innumerable hours hunting
and fishing with friends and family. He also spent a not
inconsiderable number of hours alone with nature—time he found
peaceful, therapeutic and deeply gratifying.
For most of his life after college,
Gary
stayed connected to baseball through participation in local softball
leagues and as a coach of numerous Wood River American Legion teams.
Although his friends and family will miss him dearly,
Gary’s
short 57 years constituted, in his own words, “a pretty great run.”
Gary is survived by his siblings, Nancy Brownell of Rescue, CA,
Linda Sady of Reno, NV and Dale Sady of Spokane, WA; his six nieces
and nephews sprinkled across the globe; his loving wife, Carla Sady
of Hailey; his children, Dani Summerill (Chris) of Pocatello, Nikole
Olive (Dave) of Orofino and Kayo Sady (Maegan) of Rockville, MD; and
his four grandchildren.
Gary’s
family would like to thank Dr. Charles Smith,
Twin Falls;
Dr. Matthew Schwarz,
Boise;
and Dr. Paul Montgomery,
Boise,
for their candor, kindness and skill in treating
Gary
and helping him decide appropriate treatment courses.
His family would also like to thank Hospice of the
Wood
River
Valley.
In particular, thank you, Nancy, Kathy and Carolyn for your guidance
and compassion during the last weeks of
Gary’s life.
A reception to honor
Gary,
followed by a celebration of his life, will be held in Hailey at the
Senior Connection on Saturday, Jan. 21, from
3-7
p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gary Sady Medical
Fund at DL Evans bank in
Hailey,
Idaho,
or to Hospice of Wood River Valley.

Alyce Kessler, 72, Orofino
Alyce Ann Kessler, Orofino, passed away Sunday,
Jan. 15, 2012,
at
Tri-State
Memorial
Hospital,
of pneumonia, with her daughter Cindy and son-in-law Greg Dawson by
her side. She was 72.
She was born Alyce Ann Baird on
Aug. 22, 1939,
in
Youngstown,
OH.
She and Casey Kessler were married there and subsequently moved to
several states, but their true home was always Orofino. She worked
as a clerk at City Hall, a secretary for Dr. Cleto, and a school bus
driver.
Her working career ended when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor
in 1979. Surgery was able to slow the progression of the tumor for
awhile, but she underwent a second surgery in 1994 leaving her
disabled. She and Casey truly enjoyed their time in the
Clearwater
and spent their last few summers on the
North Fork camping, fishing and hunting.
Casey died in 2000 and she moved into Brookside Landing as soon as
her apartment was constructed in 2001. The family is eternally
grateful to the investors and staff of Brookside Landing for giving
Mom a safe haven for the past decade. She needed and loved their
wonderful facility and nurturing staff and participated in many of
their activities with joy.
She was an inspiration to us all as she refused to let her
disabilities and limitations get in her way. There were also a few
community members who made sure she could attend
First
Baptist
Church
and then
Orofino
Community
Church
as long as she was able to go.
Alyce is survived by one brother, Richard Baird, of
South
Carolina;
her daughter Cindy, and her son-in-law Greg Dawson, of Orofino.
No services are planned. Burial will take place. Pine Hills Funeral
Chapel and Crematory is in care of arrangements. The family suggests
