Fraser enjoys early Christmas

By Norma Brand

Fraser Ladies Get Together Club Christmas potluck

The Fraser Ladies Get Together Club held their Christmas potluck celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

The hostesses set up the Fraser Community Center on the previous Friday. They assembled and decorated the Christmas tree, arranged the tables and put out the decorations.

On the day of the potluck Steve Brand had a fire lighted in the new stove, the building was toasty warm without a hint of smoke. Thanks Steve.

Oreta Stuart, Sally Marks and Norma Brand were the hostesses this year. The Club purchased the ham and turkey, which the hostesses prepared, along with the dressing, potatoes and gravy. Each family brought their favorite potluck dishes to share. The serving counter and the dessert table were laden with delicious food. After Ed Berreth lead everyone in a prayer of thanks, the serious business of choosing what to eat got under way.

Santa arrives with gifts

The jingle of bells filled the air and Santa arrived with his bag of gifts. Sally Marks took on the responsibility of assisting Santa; she also handed out the candy sacks. Lots of photos were taken of the 11 children with Santa. Jack Smolinski didn’t set on Santa’s lap, but he did get called to come and pick up his gifts. All too soon Santa had to be on his way, so with Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas, he took his leave. Thanks Santa, for remembering all the children this year, we will look forward to seeing you again next Christmas.

Secret Sisters revealed

Secret Sister gifts were handed out and the names were revealed. New names were drawn for 2010. Each man brought a gift to share; they were opened and shared with everyone.

Fraser Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings are always festive and fun. The hostesses want to thank everyone for coming; it was a pleasure to have everyone together again this year. Happy Holiday and have a great New Year.

Pinochle party

Linda Beard reported there were enough players to fill three tables at the pinochle party on Saturday, Dec. 12. MabelAnn Steadman took high score, low score went to Janet Kingen and Janet and Judy Cooper won the pinochle.

Janet and Pete Kingen enjoy a visit from Danielle and Glenis Gomez and their three year old son, Danny, over the Thanksgiving weekend. Everyone went sleigh riding on French Mountain.

Mark your calendars

Santa will be at the Timberline Café and the Weippe Fire Department on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Anna and Dave Walker want to remind everyone that Santa will be at the Timberline Café in Weippe on Saturday, Dec. 19. He will arrive with gifts for the kids at 10:30 a.m. and will be there until 3:30 p.m.

The Weippe Fire Department plans to bring Santa to the station on a fire truck on Saturday. Families are invited to bring the kids to the station at 10 a.m. Santa will be there for several hours with free gift for the children.

Electrical fire at the McHone home

Sharon and Mike McHone had an electrical fire at there home on Thornton Road on Friday, Dec. 11. The McHones were not at home when the fire started. Reggie and Peggy Ball saw smoke coming from the side of the house when they returned from Orofino. Reggie started working on the problem while Peggy drove to Jan Thornton’s home to call 911 and to call Sharon who was at work. The timing was just right to save the house from being destroyed. Sharon had left the two dogs and three cats in the house because of the cold weather. The animals were also saved.

The McHones want to thank the Weippe Fire Department for responding to the call, and the Clearwater Power Company for rerouting the power to the shop and the barn. They also want to thank their neighbors and friends for all their help.

Winter comes to the Northwest

Winter has come to the great northwest. Snow started falling on Saturday afternoon and by Monday we had approximately 10 inches on the ground. It looks like we will have a white Christmas this year.

The forecast is for the snow to continue until the weekend. Linda Beard must have been doing her snow dance again, she and her husband, Mike, love to ski, so this type of weather may be around for awhile if Linda has anything to do about it.
