Robo Dragons compete in first qualifying event
By Melissa Mayberry, Weippe Youth Services Librarian
Weippe Public Library sent their very first Lego League team, the Robo Dragons, to Post Falls Dec. 5 to compete in their first qualifying event. The day began at 7 a.m. and the Post Falls High School was abuzz with excitement and anticipation! It was incredible to see all the kids from the 4th to 8th grade age range testing their robots and working together as teams.
Our team was one of 65, all from Northern Idaho. In the robotics competition we came in 27th! We had a lot of fun and the team really learned a lot about programming a robot, science of transportation, and working together
In January the Library will be starting two new teams of Jr. FIRST LEGO Leaguers. The teams will each consist of six 1st through 3rd graders. Sign up sheets will go home with the kids at Timberline on Dec. 16. There are only 12 slots to fill, so don't delay in returning the sign up sheet if you are interested in having your child participate.
The teams will meet at the library once a week after school for 8-10 weeks. There is no cost for this wonderful opportunity to have your child learn about technology, building, teamwork and science. It will be fun and educational! Please call Melissa Mayberry at the library for more information @ 435-4073.
