Highway accident in Riverside sends three people to the hospital

   An accident involving two vehicles sent three people to the hospital Nov. 22. It occurred at 6:18 p.m. Sunday evening on U.S. Highway 12 near 105th Street in the Riverside area of Orofino, according to an accident report released by the Idaho State Police.

   Jessie Jasper, age 18, with passenger Wanda Head, age 75, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Geo, according to the report. Jasper’s vehicle broke down in the eastbound, right-hand lane of travel in wet, rainy conditions. Emergency flashers were on in the Geo.

   John Apfelbeck of Peck, age 79, did not see Jasper’s vehicle and crashed into it traveling at highway speed.

   Jasper and Head were not wearing seatbelts and sustained injuries. They were transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital.

   Apfelbeck also sustained injuries, and was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of collision.

   Idaho State Police are still investigating the accident.
