Pierce-Weippe C of C has new recreation brochure

Ten Thousand copies of the new Pierce-Weippe Chamber of Commerce Recreation Map Brochure arrived this week fresh off the press. The Chamber received a $2200 grant from the Idaho Travel Council to produce a much needed tourist brochure of the Clearwater County backcountry covering the area from Idaho Highway 11 east to the North Fork of the Clearwater River.

The map includes recreational and historical points of interest, campgrounds, snowmobile trail heads, ATV and motorcycle trails, non-motorized trails, and a multitude of roads that provide access.

The brochure is a culmination of a year’s worth of effort spearheaded by Harv Nelson, president of the Pierce-Weippe Chamber of Commerce. An initial meeting was held in 2008 in which Pierce and Weippe city officials, Clearwater National Forest officials, ATV and snowmobile club leaders, and knowledgeable long term residents gathered to list historical and recreational sites that should be included.

Colleen Fahy, with the Clearwater National Forest, was a tremendous help with the overall recreation map. Carmen Syed, with Support 4 Business, designed the graphic layout and coordinated the printing.

The full color, glossy brochure is 11x17, and double sided. It includes Pierce and Weippe town maps, photographs and community points of interest information, along with Chamber contact information and yearly local events.  The Chamber website, www.pierce-weippechamber.com lists the current 49 local businesses members, history of the area, and links to recreation and government agencies with more inclusive maps.

The new Recreation Map is free of charge and available to be used and distributed by any individuals or businesses. Extra copies can be obtained at The Outback or A Blue Moose Mercantile in Pierce, the Weippe Discovery Center or call 208-464-2171.
