   A family of champion archers has turned their talents and expertise into a business, Clearwater Archery Supplies. David and Donita Powers and their sons Mike, Dusty, and Bubba have totaled nine national championships and four world championships between the five of them.

   Mick Carrico shot an elk in October with a rack 6 x 7. The rack is non–typical with two bases on the seven point side. The eight to 10 year old bull dressed out at 450 pounds. He shot the bull at 400 yards with a 7 mm magnum.

   Orofino High School girls began their basketball season Nov. 6. Team members are Noelle Richardson, Kristin Kludt, Tonya Shamion, Teri Leach, Brianna Wargi, Heidi Manfull, Brenda Fix, Laura Walters and Debbie Hester. Kurt Savage is their coach.

   On an elk hunting trip Evelyn Marsh got more than she bargained for when a cougar began stalking her. Evelyn shot the cougar through the right eye at a distance of 15 ft.

   Parking will be restricted for a few weeks during the construction period for the 1350 square ft. addition to Glenwood Pharmacy. Located at the rear of the building, the addition will house an enlarged pharmacy and display space and expanded home health care center.

   The rear entrance will feature an inside ramp to provide ease of entrance for handicapped customers. When the exterior of the addition is completed the remodeling will begin on the inside. The drive up window will also be remodeled so that customers may drive closer to the window.

   Postmaster Raymond Scoles says a majority of mail patrons in Orofino were approved for motorized delivery service. The service may be provided beginning sometime in 1975.

   The first steps in obtaining extensive courthouse additions were began Monday when county road crews began excavating at the rear of the present building.

   The first snow of the season fell at Headquarters.

40 Years Ago

   Seven bids for construction of the Dent Bridge were opened by the Corps of Engineers office in Walla Walla.

   Calvin Lyons, Orofino High School instructor, received the first hot lunch tray from Mrs. George Peacey, cook Oct. 27 at the new high school. Other cooks who help serve on the average of 300 students a day are Wilhamina Beck and Betty Crutcher.

   Total expenditures on Dworshak Dam have run $13,657,000 including several millions still on hand to finance an 1800 ft. long diversion tunnel and perhaps start a detour road slated to cost about two million.

   Robert Arneson, senior at Pierce High School, was the only one in the school with straight A grades this quarter.

   Expansion of the Gaffney Motors Garage makes an important addition to the automobile industry facilities in Orofino. It will provide a full repair and service space and display rooms for the DeSoto-Plymouth agency. The reinforced concrete addition to the garage and stage depot brings the value up to more than $50,000 with a 38x100 addition.

   Construction bids on a proposed superintendent’s residence at State Hospital North here are being opened and a contract let out in November.
