Orofino Chamber of Commerce
Top 10 scenic byways
At the regular meeting Nov 18, Anna Holden gave a presentation on the Top 10 Scenic Drives in the Northern Rockies, which span five states and two provinces: MT, WY, OR, ID, WA, British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
The project, funded by grants in 2008, is dubbed “market driven” meaning that it is their goal to promote traveling and gather demographic information on what services travelers may wish to use. The organization has hired two firms: Patterson-Bach (Florida) and TIG Global (Maryland), the first to handle the map, advertising and PR, and the latter to handle website development.
The Idaho destinations included are: Hells Canyon Scenic Byway; Salmon River-Sawtooth Scenic Byway; Yellowstone-Grand Teton Loop; International Selkirk Loop; and the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway. The top 10 destinations they promote actually encompass four All American roads, six scenic byways, and four connecting trails, making a total of 14.
