Turkey shoot

   The Vug, in downtown Pierce is happy to announce their 1st annual Fall Turkey Shoot Saturday, Nov. 21st. Start the festivities at 5 p.m. (until 9 p.m.) with an all you can eat Turkey Dinner Buffet, followed by the Turkey Shoot, which is a simple dice game, at 7 p.m. where you can win a turkey and other prizes.

   The grand prize for the shooters will be a 20-gauge shotgun, donated by the owner of the Vug, Dan Vaughan.

   At 9 p.m. there will be live music courtesy of "Lukenbill-Faller's Classic Rock Revue" out of Lewiston. Come visit beautiful Pierce America and join in this unique evening of food, fun and games! Call the Vug at 464-1314 with any questions.

Holiday bazaar

   The 30th Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pierce Community Center. Crafters, artisans, businesses, social groups, and youth organizations will be offering a wide variety of wonderful holiday gifts.

   In addition, there will be a $1 table for children to buy presents for their family. Door prizes will be given away every hour. A soup and salad bar will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Hilltop Merchants’ Turkey Drawings will be held hourly from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

   So, be sure to visit your local merchants during the next couple of weeks to sign-up for the turkey drawing and then mark your calendar to be sure to attend this "kick-off" to the holiday shopping season. A few tables are still available for vendors to rent.

   Also coming up is the 2009 Festival of Trees, Friday Dec. 4th from 6-8 p.m. This is a GEM team sponsored gift and decor auction to help fund local projects. Call Carmen at 464-1088 for more information.

   The center will be closed on the 20th to prepare for the Bazaar

Thanksgiving Dinner Raffle

   The Historic Pierce Cemetery Friends will be sponsoring their 2nd annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner Basket Raffle. The drawing will be Nov. 21st at the Pierce Community Center during the Holiday Bazaar.

   The winner does not need to be present to win. The basket can be delivered locally, otherwise arrangements can be made by calling patty Goodrich at 464-2333, Cindy Flury at 464-1125 or Cathrine Carlson at 464-2737. You may also call them for tickets.

   Tickets may also be purchased at some local businesses and also the day off the Holiday Bazaar. All proceeds will go toward future Cemetery projects.
Hats off to this group who has dedicated many hours to such a worthwhile project.

Pioneer Medical Clinic

   Dr. Jenkins is seeing patients at the Clinic in Pierce. He will be here Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17.

Pierce-Weippe Chamber of Commerce Nov. 19

Meeting minutes are as follows:

   The meeting was called to order by Harv Nelson, 7 p.m. at the Weippe Discovery Center.

   Members present: Harv and Colleen Nelson, Charlene and Joe Douglas, JoAnne and Jerry Bonura, Bev Bailey, Rob Harrell, Kathy Coles, Greg Gerot.

   Guests present: Cynthia Tews, Debbie Evans, Mimi Alsup.

   Treasurer’s report: Bev reported the main checking has $726.35 with all bills paid. The first CD has $5079.40 and will mature Nov. 14, 2009 the second CD has $3000 and will mature June 10, 2010.

   Guest speaker: Debbie Evans spoke on the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous that will take place in Weippe June 18 – 25, 2010. This is a national event that happens every year. The last time it was in Idaho was 2005 in Winchester.

   It is a self-contained ‘period’ encampment (French & Indian War – 1830’s) that will bring upwards of 2000 – 3000 people to the area. They will be offering tours of the encampment on Sat., June 19, for ticket holders. Tickets will be $5 each.

   Participants in the encampment will be encouraged to shop locally. They will be presented with packets of information about the area. Chamber merchants can submit their brochures, coupon specials, business cards, information, etc., to be included in the 500 packets.

Old Business:

   Elections of Chamber Officers were held. All incumbents were willing to serve again. President, Harv Nelson; 1st Vice President,, JoAnne Bonura, 2nd Vice President, Charlene Douglas; Treasurer, Bev Bailey; Secretary, Colleen Nelson.

   Greg Gerot, Mayor of Pierce, encouraged all of this year’s celebrations to especially emphasize that this is Pierce’s Sesquicentennial (150 years since discovery).

   The Pierce Winter Festival will be held Feb 5-7, 2010. The first organizational meeting will be Wed., Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at the  Pierce Community Center.

   The Chamber recreational map is at the printer and should be ready for distribution within a week.

   It was decided that we would produce an insert for the brochure of all the current Chamber business’s and phone numbers, which can easily be changed as the membership changes.

   The Chamber will offer Scholarships of $500 and $300 again in 2010. If anyone knows of THS Seniors, tell them about the opportunity. A THS Financial Aid Night will be held, Nov. 17, 5:30 pm at THS.

New business

   Harv mentioned that we should be aware of the 2010 Census. It is beneficial, financially and in other ways that everyone gets counted. Encourage your friends and neighbors to fill out their census forms.

   Temporary positions will be available to be a census counter. Look for announcements of testing times if interested. It was voted to donate $1000 to the Friends of the Deyo Reservoir to promote the Deyo Reservoir project.
