Pierce-Weippe Chamber Profile
Amy Schmid Photography
Amy Schmid Photography grew out of a lifetime passion for taking pictures.
Photography was Amy’s eighth grade career project, but for a long time, she
never considered it a serious career option.
When she moved to Idaho, she was instantly inspired by its beauty. Her first love is nature photography, and she says, “You can’t get more nature than around Pierce.”
She began selling postcards and prints at Pierce Hardware. Then, last year she attended Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula. Amy completed their Summer Intensive and Advanced Intensive programs. She officially started her business in October, 2008.
Along with nature photos, she has learned that she really loves doing portraits and shooting weddings as well. “Being able to ‘capture fleeting moments’ is something truly special and magical whether it is with people or the ever-changing scenes of nature”, she explains. You can often find her alongside the road photographing a scene with great light she happens to notice while driving by.
Amy Schmid hails originally from Tillamook, OR, and moved to the Hilltop from Trout Lake, WA, a little over three years ago. She and Cory Schmid were about two months away from their wedding when the Pierce Hardware store in Pierce came up for sale. Cory had always wanted to live in the area, so, as she says, they “took the plunge,”
packed up and started running the hardware store. She had only been to Pierce one other time.
She and Cory have one child, Dylan, who was born in March. They have numerous pets, including dogs, cats, horses, goats, chickens, and fish at their home in Weippe.
You can find them outdoors taking advantage of the multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities here. They will be out fishing, hunting, camping, boating or riding 4-wheelers, or, she says, Cory will be doing those things, while she takes pictures. Amy enjoys time to read and travel, when she has the chance.
Amy envisions changes in this area as to the growth in tourism, with all the outdoor recreation available in the area, and the added bonus of having basic amenities of the cities not too far away. She would not like to see much change at all, except at the local level, with the Winter Festival and Pierce 1860 Days more established to draw in more people.
