CLEARWATER TRIBUNE HOME

NOVEMBER 19, 2009

Harvest Moon packed with fun

As the Harvest Moon guests enter the Best Western Lodge this Saturday evening, Nov. 21, they’ll be treated to an array of five gaily decorated trees in the lobby that reflect this year’s theme, Celebrate the Season.

The guests will be personally greeted and given a numbered paddle that will serve as an identifier for some of the evening’s fun activities and auctions. They’ll also be reminded that proceeds from the 12th annual fundraiser will help purchase equipment and fund capital improvements at Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics.

First on the entertainment agenda is a 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour, then a 6:30 p.m. buffet dinner featuring Salmon Wellington catered by Dining on the Edge.  During the first two hours volunteer stewards will be selling raffle tickets for the top two layers of a 140 bottle Wine Tree constructed by Dr. Michael Meza and assembled by Heather Burnham. The larger bottom layer will be sold to the highest bidder at the oral auction which begins at 7:30 p.m. featuring Jeff Jones, KLER owner/manager, as the evening’s auctioneer.

This year’s awe inspiring trees are created by local talents including Sherry Schlader of Sherry’s Cakes and Bouquets in Weippe, whose tree has a ‘Star of Bethlehem’ theme; the Orofino Flower Shop’s ‘Shimmering Reds’ tree; Cindy Freeman’s ‘Frosty the Snowman’ theme; Janet Burnham’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ tree and the Harvest Moon planner’s tree with a theme of ‘All that Glitters.’  They will be auctioned by Jones and delivered to the homes or businesses of the highest bidder by Will Wiese and Pat Larson, Clearwater Pick Up and Delivery.

Also available at the live auction are a number of vacation packages including two nights stay at a condominium in Whitefish Lake that includes two ski certificates and private ski lessons or a two hour mountain tour. A second vacation package includes a one night stay at the Coeur D’Alene Casino Hotel and Resort and two rounds of golf at Circling Raven Golf Course. A third package includes a Brundage getaway with a one night stay at a private New Meadows cabin and two ski lift tickets at Brundage Mountain. A final package includes a gourmet dinner for two at Dining on the Edge and a night’s stay in the Whiskey Creek Suite at the Best Western Lodge at River’s Edge.

Until 8:30 p.m. each of the thirty evergreen wreaths made by Happy Tree Farm and decorated with a hand tied bow from Orofino Flower Shop will be available through silent auction with a minimum bid of $20.

Following the auctions for the trees, vacation packages, wine tree and wreaths the fabulous Kingpins, a five member show band from Moscow will play tunes from the 50’s through the 90’s in between their multiple costume changes.
