Seasonal wreaths available at Harvest Moon Cruise

Linda Driver, Happy Tree Farm, is pictured with some of the 30 wreaths she and her crew are making as centerpieces for the Harvest Moon Cruise, Nov 21. Each will feature a hand tied bow from Orofino Flower Shop and all will be available in a Silent Auction. Tickets are available by calling 476-8033.

Linda Driver and her crew at Happy Tree Farm in Orofino will be making a variety of live evergreen wreaths to grace the tables at this year’s Harvest Moon Cruise on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Best Western Lodge at River’s Edge. Each of the fresh wreaths will be decorated with a different hand tied bow created by Orofino Flower Shop.

The 30 wreaths will match the theme of this year’s event, Celebrate the Season. They are made using a combination of grand fir, scotch pine, cedar and juniper and will be available for silent auction during the evening. All proceeds from wreath sales will be used to purchase equipment and make capital improvements at Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics.

“The smell of freshly cut evergreens will add to the holiday atmosphere,” said Driver. “You need two hard frosts to set the needles before harvesting the boughs. Luckily, those just occurred and we’re elbow deep in greenery. Making the wreaths is closer to a craft than a hobby and no two are exactly alike.” Linda and her late husband, Vern, started their tree farm 30 years ago. She also sells Christmas trees and swags to area merchants in Orofino, Clarkston and Moscow.

“I was pleased the CVHC Foundation asked me to make the wreaths for their event because I think it’s important to have access to local health care and it’s nice to be part of their effort,” said Driver.

In addition to the silent auction wreaths, five gaily decorated trees will be available for auction with Jeff Jones, KLER, acting as this year’s auctioneer. This year’s trees are being decorated by Cindy Freeman; Janet Burnham; Sherry Schlader, Sherry’s Cakes and Bouquets in Weippe; the Orofino Flower Shop crew and the CVHC Harvest Moon Planning Committee.

“For something new, different and fun we’re soliciting donations of red or white wine to complete a Wine Tree. The ‘tree’ will consist of multiple layers of bottled wine fashioned to look like a real Christmas tree,” said Heather Burnham, Tree Creator and Orofino Chamber of Commerce Director.

“The tree layers will be raffled that evening with the lowest or largest layer as part of the live auction,” said Burnham. Any business or individual interested in contributing a bottle or case of wine can contact Burnham, 476-4335 or drop it off at the Chamber offices, 217 1st Street.

After the auction the Kingpins, a five member dance band, from Moscow will provide live dance music until midnight. The event begins with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served by the Edge at 6:30 p.m.

Only 200 tickets are available for this year’s event. They are $45 per person and can be purchased at Johnson’s Jewelry, the CVHC Foundation in the Medical Park office building on Michigan Avenue, the CVHC Business Office, from any of this year’s planners or by calling the Foundation, 476-8033.

This year’s sponsors and contributors include Glenwood Pharmacy, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Foundation, Lewiston Orthopaedic Associates, Regence Blue Shield, Essentia Community Hospitals and Clinics, St Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Pathologists Regional Laboratory and Walrath Insurance Company. Any other business or individual interested in sponsorship is welcome to call Deyo at the CVHC Foundation.
