He reported that, overall, the scores are going up. District 171 is “above in every area when compared with the State of Idaho. Math scores are not as high as they like them to be. Durkee was very pleased with the reading scores, however, which are trending upward. He also said that disadvantaged students are benefiting from the food programs offered.

Permission slips have gone out to parents, for children less than 18 years of age, to receive nasal spray dosages against the H1N1 virus. Some immunizations were available Nov. 5, and should be available Dec. 3.

Carrie Brooks, from Orofino Elementary reported many visible improvements to the elementary facility. Visitors will notice a new foyer with new laminate, new carpet, and sticker displays. She said they are trying to create a positive atmosphere for children and staff by focusing on leadership and character building. She referred to it as a “culture change.”

Red Ribbon Week -- emphasizing a “drug free” school environment was recently celebrated. Teachers wore funny wigs and wild clothing. An old disco ball was hung, and music was held during lunch periods.

Angie Baldus was named Rookie Administrator of the Year in October, by the Idaho Association of School Administrators. Carrie Brooks said, “She has made a huge difference in a short period of time.”

Detailed information may be found with regard to school board agendas; financial audit information; events calendars; report cards; and job openings at the District’s website: www.sd171.k12.id.us.
