City of Orofino Police Officer Jeff Wilson graduated at the top of his class at the Police Officers Standard and Training (POST) recently.
A $1,000 college scholarship has been awarded to Kathy Stanton of Orofino by the publishers of Who’s Who American High School students. Kathy attends the University of Idaho.

Lara E. Goetsch, daughter of Kathleen and Don Goetsch, has enrolled as a freshman in the Madill School of Journalism at Northwestern University for the 1989-90 academic year.
Janet Mosier, RN, a native of Orofino, has recently been recognized by the Boston-based Traveling Nurses Corps for her commitment to the field of nursing, quality healthcare and professionalism. Mosier, a graduate of Mt. Carmel Hospital Nursing School and Lewis Clark State College recently completed a traveling nurse’s assignment in Yakima, WA.

The Weippe Library has a new appearance thanks to the Weippe Good Luck 4-H Club. Under the community pride program project, the Weippe club arranged to have the grounds landscaped, a parking lot established, cover accessible area, new sign and paint. With the corporation of the City of Weippe, summer youth helpers, donations from the city, Hutchins Lumber, Johnstun Bros, Clearwater Highway District and the library, the library lots were greatly improved.

New physical therapist, John Garrison, former director of physical medicine at Fairview Hospital in Salem, OR started work as a physical therapist at Clearwater Valley Hospital.
Lois Brock returned recently after attending the 54th annual convention of Supreme Chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA.

Schmidt Bros., Hutchins Bros., and Cardiff sawmills are scheduled to shutdown for the beginning of hunting season. The heavy rains have already curtailed logging in the area.
Farmers in the upper elevation of the county, Cavendish and Weippe sector said they face heavy losses on grain and clover crops if wet weather continues.
