Decision 2009, Clearwater County election results

Elk River

     Mayor James Martin (70) was re-elected over Councilor Leroy Sims by a vote of 31 to 23, respectively.

     Dawn Kelley and Tammy Carey, both uncontested, were elected to seats with votes of 44 and 29, respectively.

Orofino

   Uncontested Councilors, Ted Brown, Michael Deitrick, and Ron Banks were returned to their seats as incumbents for Orofino City Council with a ten percent turnout. Councilor Ron Banks was elected after filling the appointment to the seat formerly held by Ryan Smathers, the current Mayor.

Pierce

   Pierce Incumbents Councilor Laurence (Harv) Nelson and former Councilor Robert W. Harrell were elected in a five-way contest for two seats.

   Nelson, a 53 year old math teacher, received 108 votes, the most of any candidate.

   Harrell, (63) owner of The Timber Inn, received 98 votes.

   Cheryl Stenzel (63) a librarian at Timberline High School, followed with 66 votes.

   Ben Johnson (53) a surveyor, received 64 votes.

   Dropping out of the race, prior to Tuesday’s election, was former Mayor Wally Williams (79). Voter turnout was light with 90 voters, out of approximately 243 registered voters, coming out to be counted.

Weippe

   Millie Morris (56) a six-year incumbent, who operates The Elkhorn Bar, won 68 votes.

   Also returned to his council seat was Bill Barteaux (68). Barteaux, a retired mechanic and heavy equipment operator, garnered 57 votes – elected after being appointed last year.

   Roger (Buck) Jared (56) received 36 votes. Jared runs the non-profit ICAN food program for Clearwater County needy.

   Running unopposed, Mayor Norm Steadman won his bid for re-election garnering 77 votes.

   Out of approximately 243 registered voters in Weippe, 90 voters came out to participate in this election.
