Weippe Fire Department Halloween Carnival will start at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fire hall. Lisa says they will have carnival games, candy and hot dogs for the kids. Val and Kathy Mortenson are former residents of Weippe. Several years ago they sold their place on Hjalmar Johnson Road, bought a motor home and hit the road. Kathy writes via email ”We are at White Sands National Monument. Deanna is working for the National Park Service and Val is volunteering here. We will be here until the end of May when Deanna turns 18. She is currently taking 14 credit hours for the semester at New Mexico State University-Alamogordo, working for the NPS.

2 C diced apples
1 C sugar
1/3 C oil
1/2 t. vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 C unsifted flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. salt
1/2 C raisins
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine apples and sugar in mixing bowl and let stand 10 mins. Blend oil, vanilla and egg with the apples. Then combine the dry ingredients and mix in well. Stir in the raisins. (I mix all by hand). Pour into greased 8" square cake pan. Bake 35-40 mins.
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
3 oz. softened cream cheese
1/4 C softened butter
2 T milk (I used Silk Creamer)
1 t. vanilla
dash salt
2 1/2 C Confectioner's Sugar
Mix all together. Enough for an 8" or 9" layer
Reminder: An update on the Deyo Reservoir and Wetland Project, located just west of Weippe is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, 6 p.m. at Weippe City Hall. Joe Dupont, Idaho Fish and Game, will present plans to move ahead including construction timeline, funding, and long term plans. Contact Marge at 435-4362 if you have questions.
Elwin has been working on the engineering and framing of the Weippe Museum roof. When the weather gets a little better (hopefully before June 2010) he could use some additional brawn and brains to get the job done. It helps to have willing workers on this kind of project. Bring food to the Weippe Library during the month of November and your fines will be forgiven. In addition, the Friends of the Library will match the food donations! All food collected goes for holiday food baskets which are distributed by the Timberline Lion’s Club. Questions about this program? Call the library at 435-4058.
The "all you can eat" breakfast hosted by the Senior Citizens Center had a good turnout. If you asked for the full works you got sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, juice and coffee. A hearty start to the day.
A drawing was held every hour during the breakfast with winners Dolores Watson, Vicki Jorgenson, and Dorothy Heywood.
Menu at the Center for Thursday, Oct. 29 is meatloaf, potatoes & gravy, peas & carrots, fruit and yummm, pumpkin bread.
Sherry of Sherry’s Cakes and Bouquet’s is having a Happy Harvest celebration at the shop on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 10-4. There will be a drawing for a Thanksgiving centerpiece and refreshments will be served. Stop by and check out the new holiday items.
Dolores reports the results of Sunday pinochle at the Lodge; Dolores won low, Don Palin won high and Lori Franchini and Don Palin won pinochle. There were four tables last Sunday.
