Harvest Moon planners applying finishing touches

For the last 11 years the CVHC Harvest Moon Cruise has varied its theme, its menu, its entertainment, its music and even its location. Past themes included a 100th birthday party for Orofino, a USO show, a New Orleans blues review and a Best of Broadway theme. A year ago the venue was switched from the Armory to the Best Western Lodge at Rivers Edge and, for the first time, a DJ was hired.

This year’s fundraiser is set for Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Lodge with five decorated Christmas trees on display the week prior and a live band, The Kingpins. The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and a delicious buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m.

“Our goal is to sponsor a fun evening to thank the community for their support and to provide an opportunity for businesses and individuals to financially contribute to our Foundation,” said Casey Meza, CEO, one of this year’s planners. “The funds are designated for our Foundation Legacy program and are then used to purchase equipment and make capital improvements. We want to ensure that health care is available for us today and for our grandchildren in the future. We’re excited about this year’s fundraiser. Changing things each year keeps it fun and interesting and this year is no different.”

This year’s planners also include Kathryn Allen, Lenne Bonner, Sandy Clay, Heather Burnham, Stephanie Deyo, Sue Higgins and Candy Lang. “We really appreciate all the volunteers who have worked on the Harvest Moon in the past. They’ve done such an excellent job and most have volunteered to help us decorate and prepare for this year’s event,” said Allen. “The Lodge will look very festive that evening. We’re hoping people will view this as an opportunity to kick off the holiday season. We’re sure everyone will enjoy dancing to the Kingpins.”

The Kingpins are a six member show band based in Moscow. They perform dance music from the 50’s through this year. They’ve played at numerous events including Hot August Nights, the Kamiah Crab Feed, and 1860 Days in Pierce.

Only 200 tickets are available for this year’s event. This is the first year invitations have not been mailed. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased at Johnson’s Jewelry, the CVHC Foundation in the Medical Park office building on Michigan Avenue, the CVHC Business Office, from any of this year’s planners or by calling the Foundation, 476-8033.
