Fred Jacobowitz (Ebony) and Andrew Gilpin (Ivory)

Clearwater Concert Association presents Ebony and Ivory Nov. 5

The Clearwater Community Concert Association is proud to present the dynamic woodwind/piano duo, Ebony and Ivory, to open the 2009-2010 concert season. Fred Jacobowitz (Ebony) and Andrew Gilpin (Ivory) will perform on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Orofino High School. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the concert that begins at 7:30 p.m. Members can pick up their season tickets at the door.

Concert members may remember these incredible performers from several seasons ago when they delighted us with their vast repertoire of light classical, George Gershwin, folk, Scott Joplin ragtime, jazz, Leonard Bernstein, Benny Goodman and Broadway musical selections and even some of their original compositions. They charmed the audience with their musical skills and engaging personalities. The concert association welcomes them back for another captivating evening of toe tapping entertainment.

Andrew Gilpin was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is completely self-taught at the piano. He began his performing career at the age of 15, accompanying a family-run choral group. He formed the Andrew Gilpin Trio, a jazz group which has performed in Canada and the U.S. as well as appearances on television and radio.

He has been involved in a number of musical theater productions across North America. He has released several CDs including Red Hot!, Ebony & Ivory‘s debut CD, containing many of his original compositions and arrangements, wonderful examples of his unique “instrumental fusion.”

Fred Jacobowitz received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School of Music where he studied with the late Leon Russianoff. His New York debut was at Carnegie Recital Hall as the winner of the Artists International Competition. He has played virtually all styles of music, from classical to jazz, Klezmer to Appalachian bluegrass, Gypsy village music, Irish pennywhistle and beyond.

This award winning musician hails from Brooklyn, NY where he has had numerous performances at a variety of musical venues.

Together, the performing duo of Ebony and Ivory blends their individual talents to delight and amaze their audiences. They are met with “great enthusiasm and standing ovations for their wonderful programs of many different styles of music.”
