Clearwater County general elections Tuesday, November 3

Orofino

   The City of Orofino will hold a general election Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Orofino City Council Chambers, 217 First Street. The polls will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

   The election will be held to elect three council members, to serve four year terms. The positions are uncontested. Candidates running for election are incumbents: Ronald E. Banks, Ted Brown, and Michael Deitrick. The candidate profiles are as follows:

   Ronald E. Banks has been a resident of Orofino since 1982. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 24 years in nuclear engineering for submarines. He attended LCSC 1982 to 1987 where he obtained dual B.A. Degrees in History and Social Studies. He obtained teaching credentials and taught grades 7-12 in Craigmont for 14 years. In 1989 he was awarded Idaho Teacher of the Year by Sallie Mae. He was appointed to fill Ryan Smather’s seat on the city council in April, 2008.

   Ted Brown has been a resident of Orofino since 1963. He graduated from OHS and completed two years vocational technical training at LCSC. His career has included working for Green Brothers Logging, Riverside Mill, Triplett Logging, and Atkinson Distributors. He has worked the last 18 years as a supervisor for Clearwater County Road Department.

   Michael Deitrick, originally from Washington D.C., attended college at Howard Community College in MD. He has been a resident of Orofino since 1995. working at the Corps of Engineers at Dworshak Dam. He took a deferred retirement from the Corps to serve as a deputy with the County Sheriff’s Department. He has served one year on the Planning and Zoning Committee and eight years on the city council.

Elk River

   The City of Elk River will hold a general election, Tuesday, Nov. 3. The election is held for the purpose of electing a mayor and two city council members. It will be held at Andrew Bloom Community Center (Elk River, City Hall Building), 112 S. Second Street. The polls will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

   The two candidates for mayor are James Martin and Leroy Sims. The candidate profiles are as follows:

   James Martin, incumbent mayor and retired logger of 44 years, has contributed 12 years of public service in Elk River. He served three terms as mayor from 1988 to 1992, 2000 to 2004, and from 2005 to the present.

   Leroy Sims is a retired construction worker who came to Elk River in the early 1990s. Martin has served two terms on the city council.

Pierce

   The City of Pierce will hold a general election, Tuesday, Nov. 3. at Pierce City Hall, 404 South Main St. The election is for the purpose of electing two city council members for four year terms. Polls will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

   The five candidates for office are incumbent Laurence (Harv) Nelson, and challengers Robert Harrell Jr., Ben Johnson, Cheryl Stenzel, and Wally Williams. The candidate profiles are as follows:

   Laurence (Harv) Nelson is a math teacher at Timberline High School and a local business owner.

   Robert Harrell Jr. is the owner of the Timber Inn and has served on the council previously.

   Ben Johnson, formerly of Orofino, is a surveyor. He has lived in Pierce approximately three years.

   Cheryl Stenzel is a librarian at Timberline High School.

   Wally Williams is retired and a former mayor. He would like to serve now in a council member position.

Weippe

   The City of Weippe, will hold a general election, Tuesday, Nov. 3. The election is held for the purpose of electing two city council members. It will be held at the Weippe City Hall, 623 N. Main Street. The polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

   Three candidates are running for council seats: Millie Morris, Bill Barteaux, and Roger (Buck) Jared. The candidate profiles are as follows:

   Millie Morris is the manager of the Elkhorn Bar in Weippe.

   Bill Barteaux was appointed one year ago to the council and is now seeking election. He is a retired mechanic, heavy equipment operator, welder, and fabricator. He has served on several committees.

   Roger (Buck) Jared is a life long Weippe resident who runs a non profit ICAN food program for needy people in Clearwater County.
