Kamiah man dies in collision with tree

A 26-year-old Kamiah man identified as Matthew M. Perry was killed Wednesday in a vehicle collision with a tree, according to the Idaho State Police (ISP).

Perry was westbound on U.S. Highway 12 at 1:55 p.m. Sept. 30 in a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser. For an unknown reason at milepost 64.1, near Kamiah, he left the roadway and went onto the right shoulder, according to ISP. He then overcorrected back onto the highway, lost control of the vehicle, and went off the right shoulder again, this time hitting a tree. The vehicle came to rest near the river, according to ISP.

Perry was wearing his seatbelt. He was taken to Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia. ISP Tpr. Collins was the investigating officer. He was assisted by ISP Tpr. Snell, Sgt. Grotjohn, Kamiah Ambulance, and Lewis County.
