Restoration work following the 2007 Poe Cabin Fire begins
Baker City, OR-Portions of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area in Idaho began receiving restoration work the week of Sept. 22 following the 2007 Poe Cabin Fire.
Restoration work will include grading and maintaining drainage structures on the Kirkwood Road (FS Road #2062); replacing two culverts on the Cold Springs road (FS Road 2060) near Kirkwood Creek and Caribou Creek Crossing; and replacing a culvert on a spur road off the Deer Creek Road (County Road 493) near Pittsburg Landing.
Forest users are asked to be cautious and watch for grading machinery on the Kirkwood Road and when possible, find different travel routes to destinations for those roads receiving culvert replacements.
RKW Trucking of Pollock, Idaho, is doing the construction work for these restoration projects. The project is expected to be complete by Oct. 15
“The projects in the fire area will help with restoration and control of potential runoff in those watersheds,” said Jeff Stein, Wallowa-Whitman Forest Facilities Engineer. “In addition the culvert replacement near Pittsburg Landing is on the spur road that leads to a site used by the Nez Perce Tribe as part of their operations in that area.”
