Pat Lewis Farmer,
73, Weippe

He married Carol
Ann Shirk in January of 1961 in Pierce. They had two children,
Debbie and Loyd. The
marriage ended in divorce in 1966. He later married Judy Dancy in
Being
multi-talented, Pat worked in various saw mills in the Weippe area
including
In 1972 he went
to work for Industrial Parts and Machine which later became Isco
until he was recruited by Bud Wenstrom in 1983 to work at Poe
Asphalt, where he worked until his retirement in 1999.
Pat was a proud
member of many organizations including the International Brotherhood
of Teamsters, National Rifle Association and American Motorcycle
Association. He was passionate about his hobbies including his guns,
Harley Davidson motorcycles and working with young people.
Pat was quite a
marksman. He was knowledgeable about his guns and promoted the
interest by crafting and firing wildcat target rifles. He belonged
to the Banana Belt Cruisers and rode Harley’s until his right knee
just couldn’t take to starting the “old cold hogs.” He spent many
years supporting the Nez Perce County Rabbit 4-H program, donating
hundreds of hours helping kids build cages and hutches. Pat was the
dedicated chauffeur, taking exhibitors to American Rabbit Breeders
Association shows and competitions. Driving all night and sleeping
in the pickup during the show, Pat would take any group of kids
interested in showing and/or learning more about rabbits.
Pat spent his
last years residing in Weippe at the family ranch watching deer and
elk, feeding his humming birds and restoring hit and miss motors to
show at fairs and community events throughout Northern Idaho and
Eastern Washington. Because of his appreciation for nostalgia, Pat’s
hit and miss motors brought education and entertainment to people of
all ages. He was a longtime member of the Lewis and Clark Antique
Motor Club.
He is survived by
his daughter Debbie and Harold Matthews of Coeur d’ Alene, their
daughters Angela and Trisha; his son Loyd Farmer and his three
daughters, Christine, Cera, and Katrina of Lewiston; mother Ina
Twitchell of Anchorage, AK; half-sister Shirley Twitchell and son
Brandon of Palmer, AK and half-sister Donna Epstein and her three
children of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded
in death by his father, R.C. Farmer and his brother. Walter Farmer.

Kayana “Katy” Joyce
Bacus, 66, Peck
Kay was born to
Charles and Virginia Schneider on
After her
marriage ended she moved to the Orofino area where her parents and
siblings were to be closer to her family. She instantly fell in love
with the wooded mountains and chose to make the area her permanent
home. She enjoyed picnicking, mushroom picking and just walking in
the woods.
During this
time she met and married Doyle Bacus and gave birth to another
daughter, Dawn Alaina. However, the marriage ended in divorce. She
was a very strong willed person, as anyone who had met her knows,
and she raised her three daughters on her own, making a great life
for them. She worked for over 19 years at Hayes Food Store and
made many lasting friends while working there.
Kay enjoyed
22 wonderful exciting years with her soul mate and
life companion, Mark Ladoux of Peck. Mark and Kay were always busy
traveling, not just in this area but to places that Kay had never
been before. She enjoyed showing her friends and family her many
photos and scrapbooks that she would put together about each and
every one of the many adventures she and Mark had during their time
together. And never without the big wonderful smile she always had
on her face.
When she got her
first computer there was never a time when you went to visit that
she didn't bring out the newest slide show that she had just
finished. She became the computer guru for everyone in Peck that was
trying out their first computers and printers. She was very
accomplished and proud, and always ready to assist anyone that would
call her for help.
One of the
greatest accomplishments in her life, besides her girls, was when
she received her GED. She didn't tell anyone what she was doing
until she had completed all of her lessons and had her diploma in
hand. Kay had many pleasures in life, she enjoyed her time spent
with her family, fishing and traveling with Mark, gardening and the
many different crafts she occupied her time with. She was very
talented and liked to share her crafts with family and friends.
Kay is survived
by her longtime companion of 22 years Mark Ladoux; three daughters,
Deborah Erlewine (Mark Scheuerman) of Clarkston, WA; Denise Bahadar
of Meridian; Dawn Bacus of Clarkston, WA;
brothers, Steve Schneider of
Vidor, TX and Gary Schneider (Marie Draper) of Lacey, WA and
sister Jeri Russell (Sam
Zabel) of Clarkston.
Also surviving her are
grandchildren Jami Bahadar of Meridian and Jaydon Crowder of
Clarkston; many nieces and nephews and their families, including
Trina Taylor, Leon Russell, Michael Schneider, Tami Taylor, Tiffany
Dow, Courtney Schneider, Jessica Smith and Greg Draper.

Coalition, helping build bridges, gazebos and trails.
Jim was
preceded in death by his father and brother Bernard A. (Buster).
He is
survived by his mother, brothers Simon G. (Skip) and Michael J.
(Jack), his special friend and traveling companion Kathie Wiegant,
his children: Rhonda L. and husband Garett of Everson, WA; James D.
(J.D.) and wife Anja of Custer, WA; James G. (Jim) and wife May of

Harlan
O. Opdahl, 72, Pierce
On
Harlan was born in
He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara I.
Ramsdell, on
Harlan worked in Pierce at Jaype for Potlatch
Corporation, and for several area loggers until 1979, when he
discovered a way to unite his love of the outdoors and hunting with
a livelihood. Harlan, his brother Duane and their wives purchased an
outfitting business and changed the name to Triple “O” Outfitters,
and life became much busier for all of them.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were kind enough to
get lost 200 years ago in the area Triple “O” Outfitters utilized,
and Harlan enthusiastically delved into the history of that historic
trek and begin leading trail rides and visits to some of the camps
Lewis and Clark chronicled. He shared his love and knowledge of the
Lolo portion of the trail with people from around the world.
Harlan was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to camp, hunt,
ride horses, snowmobile, and watch Westerns. The spirit of
hospitality and generosity was always evident in the Opdahl home.
Meals were rarely limited to “just family.” Harlan loved the time he
spent with friends and family. His Christian faith provided them
with a role model, guiding hands and genuine concern for those
around him.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara
Opdahl; four children, Gwen and Bob Schryver of Yuma, AZ, Jim and
Linda Opdahl of Payette, Diane and Mike Snyder of Baker City, OR and
Sharon and Darrin Hartwig of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren; one sister,
Gloria Peterson of Albert Lea; sister-in-law Violet Opdahl of
Lewiston and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.
If it’s true that
friends are the flowers of life, Harlan also leaves behind a garden
of blessings he called friends.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and
Gertrude Opdahl, a daughter, Katherine, and his brother B. Duane
Opdahl.

Dustin J. Beller,
28, Weippe
Dustin was
a good student and athlete. He was a super baseball player and
excellent football player. He and his brother, Travis, played both
sports well - sometimes on the same team and sometimes not,
depending on their age. Sports was a family affair.
Dad was a
coach, mom was the "team mom, videographer and event coordinator,"
and sister Jennifer got into the act as part of the cheerleading
squad for the Mighty Cardinals youth football team back in
Dustin
loved to ride motorcycles, hunt, camp and fish. Whether with family,
friends or alone, he enjoyed the outdoors. Dustin loved cars and
dreamed of building a hot rod or cool pickup. Unfortunately, he
lacked the skills and ended up with parts of many dreams. Dreams
that were cut short at age 17 when a tumor was discovered in his
brain, thus changing his future. Thanks to a shunt surgery,
radiation treatment and his desire, he was a survivor.
A new
chapter of Dustin's life had begun. Nine years ago, Dustin became a
father to son Steven. He was as proud as any dad and loved his son
with all of his heart. He still had dreams and desires;
unfortunately, his condition prevented him from realizing most of
them. He struggled, at times, due to the lack of reasoning skills we
all take for granted, which caused him to end up in less than
favorable circumstances. However, he never gave up and would move
forward looking to the next day.
He grew
into a big, lovable bear, who usually had a smile and simple
kindness he would give freely. Unable to work, Dustin spent his life
on his terms the best he could. He still hunted, fished and camped,
and was doing just that on his last day.
He was
camping and fishing with friends on the Orogrande near the

survived by his son, Steven Crutcher; Steven's mother, Kelly;
grandfather Pete Fezatt; father Duane Beller and wife Mitzi; mother
Robin Beller and Pete Crecelius; sister Jennifer Beller and Thom
Harris; nephew Zane Harris; brother Travis Beller and his
girlfriend, Kayla George; stepsisters Jessica Wright, Erika
Branting, Theresa and Elena Crecelius; stepbrothers Tim and Jeremy
Leiterman, and Brian Crecelius; aunts Nicky and Walter North, and
Christy Brinker; and many cousins from both sides of the family.
Dustin was
preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jerry Beller and Lavonne
Sevier; maternal grandmother, Claire Fezatt; stepmother Konnie
Leiterman Beller; uncle Michael Ryan; and close friend, Keri Baker.

Don was born
In 1936 Don married Ruth Phyllis Miller and
they remained in a beautiful relationship for 71 years, until her
death in 2007.
Don was employed by
Idaho First National Bank in Nezperce when it opened in 1940. He
enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in

death by his wife, Ruth, and a daughter, Donna.
He is survived by
his children and their spouses, Edwin Strickfaden and Barbara, and
Carol Hines and Dave Elliott; his four grandchildren, Cary
Strickfaden Dingman, Evan Strickfaden, Shauna Hines Arnold and Brian
Hines; and seven great-grandchildren, Cami, Kaci, Joshua, Emilee,
Kaylee, Kaleb and Elisabeth.

Willard J. Reed,

Willie married A. Beatrice Smith on
In the early years Willie worked with his brother as a commercial
painter. He later went to work for the
He was a member of the Clarkston Jaycees and the Nez Perce County
Sheriff's Posse.
In his younger years, Willie rode motorcycles and flew with many of
his pilot friends. Willie often took family and friends on camping
trips and enjoyed riding four-wheelers. He taught many family
members how to drive various motorcycles.
Willie spent many
hours restoring antique cars and was extremely proud of his '26
Model T and '29 Chevy Coupe. He loved tinkering in his garage. He
collected many antiques and oddities through the years. He was an
avid historian, often sharing his historical knowledge and family
history. Willie was a loyal friend. He could often be found in his
garage listening to the scanner and sharing jokes, stories and cold
beer with good friends.
He loved animals
and had a variety of pets throughout his life. Willie had a great
love of family, and truly loved being with his grandchildren, nieces
and nephews, and passed on his knowledge of mechanics, cars and
planes to them.
Willie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice. He is
now at her side. Willie was the last remaining of nine Reed
children. He will be dearly missed by his children, Tim Reed and
wife Marlene, Sue Pittman, Doug Reed and wife Donna, Janice Reed,
and Melissa Wortman and husband Tom, as well as 11 grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Willie was a unique man. His stories and sense of humor will be
missed by all who knew him.
The family conducted an open house to honor and remember Willie on

Orofino, Colleen Poe Burnett and husband, Scott Burnett of North
Bonneville, WA, his brother Burley Poe and wife Loretta Poe of
Genesee, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his
beloved friends, Eldon Lee, Steve and Sherrie Lee and Brian Lee, all
of Peck. He is also survived by all of his beloved pets at the
family home.
Marvin was
most comfortable at home on the 160-acre Poe ranch just outside of
Peck. To Marvin his home was his church, his yard his pew and
Throughout his
life Marvin was well known for his mechanical abilities. He
never picked up anything broken that he could not fix. Marvin
was a soft spoken man, easy with a smile and had an all around
comforting way of making you feel welcome and an avid outdoorsman
who loved and respected all that nature has to offer. He was a
terrific hunter and fisherman, and an excellent marksman whom any
person would be hard pressed to match.
Marvin retired

doing what he loved to do. He is missed by his family, friends
and all those who came to know him.

Ed was born
At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. After his tour, he
returned to
Ed enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play
sports, often traveling many miles to attend their games. Ed was an
avid card player, loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed gardening
and attending to his honeybees. He was always quick-witted and
enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends, some that cannot be
repeated. God broke the mold with him; there will never be another
Ed White. We miss him dearly.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fay White;
brother Frank White; sisters Vernadine McLean and Beverly Thomason;
and his grandson, Casey Burns.

kids. He enjoyed his teen years by hunting, fishing and spending
time with friends and family.

Mike had a long
career working for the Nez Perce Tribe as a fisheries biologist. He
enjoyed his job with the tribe and considered his co-workers his
friends. He had been employed there for 19 years. He especially
enjoyed the field work on the

son, brother, husband and father. He was a quiet man, but you always
knew how much he loved his family. We find comfort now knowing he is
at peace. We will miss him greatly.
Mike is survived
by his wife, Colleen; daughters Amanda, Jerica and Tanaya, all of
Lewiston; also his parents, Larry and Sue Blenden of Lewiston;
brother Gary Blenden of Austin, TX; sisters Karen and Tom Freeman of
St. Maries, Lori and Dan Prado of Pahrump, NV., and LeAnn and Doyle
Troyer of Boise; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill was the
oldest of three sons born to William G. and Helen E. Bolon. He was
born
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and received
two Purple Hearts for wounds while in
Dad and Mom moved all over northern Idaho, Dad working as a
policeman, and Mom raising five boys that they had in 2½
years, including two sets of
twins. After working in law enforcement for more than 20 years, Dad
retired in 1973 because of injuries suffered in an accident.
After Dad retired, he moved his family to the best town in northern
Uncle Bill's Youth
Camp was Dad's idea to let
The camp was a
collection of tents, cabins and a large cook shack. There were
thousands of memories made by hundreds of kids who were fortunate
enough to go to camp. The biggest and best memory by far was Uncle
Bill himself. Dad made sure every camper was treated with respect
and given all of the love everyone deserves. He worked tirelessly to
make sure every kid who went to camp had a wonderful time.
Dad was always
seeking donations from businesses in the surrounding area,
everything from lumber to ice cream. Uncle Bill's Youth Camp was a
wonderful idea that came to reality because of Dad and everybody who
helped to build, maintain and work at the camp. All of their work
and efforts were greatly appreciated by Dad.
Dad spent his entire life bringing hope, joy and humor to the people
around him. He may be gone, but his memory and spirit will live on
in his family and friends, who he cherished.

He was born to
Elmer and Ethel Mason Palin
He married Shirley
Anderson. They had a son, Russ, and later divorced. Don married
Lucille Chapman Willis, and she had two daughters, LaDonna and
Martha. Together he and Lucille had a daughter, Marlene. They built
a house together and raised their children in the town of
Lucille passed
away
Don worked in the
logging industry for many years, starting out at logging camps
outside of Headquarters. He worked on the log drive from the upper
Northfork of the
Most of all Don
enjoyed fishing trips, picnics, hunting, huckleberry picking and
driving around the mountains in the Weippe area with his family and
friends. His last few years were inspired by playing pinochle, pool,
and having an ice cold beer at the Elk Horn Bar where he made new
friends.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; brothers, Elmer, George,
Walter, and Lindy; half-brother, Wilber; and sisters, Mary and
Elizabeth.
There will be a
celebration of Don and Lucille’s life at a later date.

After Dr. Beghtol
graduated from medical school and finished his internship, the
family moved to Orofino, where Dr. Beghtol established a family
practice.
Mrs. Beghtol was
very active in politics; a precinct committee woman,
secretary-treasurer of the Clearwater County Central Committee,
Republican state committee woman, appointed by the governor to the
twenty member Commission of Arts and Humanities, first woman ever
elected to the Orofino City Council.
She was vice
president of
Mrs. Beghtol was
initiated into the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AW in 1966; she was
also a member of the American Association of University Women,
Clearwater County Hospital Auxiliary and the North Idaho Medical
Association Auxiliary, parents swim team organization, P.T.A. and
was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
After the family
moved to Houston, TX, she worked for a market research company, then
learned to be a medical secretary and worked full time in her
husband’s medical office typing medical charts and generally
overseeing his business office for a few days.

transferred her membership in P.E.O. from Chapter AW, Orofino to
Chapter EP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in

She was an avid
letter writer with a great sense of humor, loved reading, cats,
crafts, and was always curious about the world around her. She
wanted to know about the birds she saw, to identify the flowers she
had not seen before as well as anything else that crossed her path.
She was a
collector and collected everything from cat cards and other cat
related things, quotes and baskets to family history.
Mrs. Beghtol is
survived by her husband, Dr. Carter V. Beghtol; sons Karl and Eric;
and grandson Spencer James Beghtol.
