   Work has started on “A Proud Heritage Plaza.” The eight-foot logger statue that is the focal point of the plaza will be in the Lumberjack Days Parade.

   Katrina Larsen was the winner of the annual 4-H Style Revue.

   Karen Wilson was named Clearwater County 4-H Leader of the Year.

   An open house will be held to give the public opportunity to view the new $850,000 addition to the LDS Church on the first street west of Barneys Sooper Market. The addition increased by 11,000-sq. ft. the church’s meeting place as originally built in 1970.

   The top style review model for 1979 is Kelly Brooks, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brooks.

   Champion beef exhibited by Mark Jackson was sold for $3 pound at the 4-H market animal sale.

   Phillip and Glenna Johnston celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sept. 22.

   Twin sons were born to Janet and David Owsley Sept. 17 at C.V.H.

   Columbia helicopters began yarding logs at the mouth of Quartz Creek, eight miles above Canyon Ranger Station.

   Orofino City Council has accepted a $36,300 bid for a Ford Truck Chassis mounted with a 600-gallon storage. The city is studying a million-gallon water storage reservoir at the McCandless place above Fords Creek Road.

   Peck residents voted 46-32 in a straw vote against bonding for a new water filtration system, seeking more information.

   O.H.S. class presidents are Kevin Norton, seniors; Wes Fisher, juniors; Ken Harvey, sophomores and Chad Easterbrook, freshman.

45 Years Ago

   Clearwater Forest will share the operation of a new 10 man youth camp to be built near Fenn Ranger Station on the Selway River ready to be used by November.

   Evergreen Helicopters of McMinnville, OR. have been loading trucks at Skull Creek providing the first aerial yarding of logs in the Clearwater forests. Logs will be hauled to Jaype Mill.

50 Years Ago

   O.H.S. Senior class officers are Rodger Konkol, John Soderling, Norman Brock, Joan Heideman and Bob Vannoy.

   School officials have postponed the opening of school until Sept. 20 and will occupy two of three wings of the new elementary school. Third and fourth graders will be moved from the high school at a later date.

   Patricia Ann Adams is the new bride of Gerald Duane Millard at rites read by Rev. Marshall Campbell.

   Orofino’s County Agent, Norm Fitzsimmons successfully staged his first county fair.

   A third of the Lenore Grain and Seed operation was destroyed by fire in a $200,000 loss.

75 Years Ago

   Reflooring of the Clearwater Bridge has started. A crew of six men furnished by the County relief  office are doing the work.

   A new slaughterhouse of the Orofino Mercantile Co. adjacent to the old one located about three miles down river was started this week.
