Heywoods celebrate 50th anniversary

Les and Clairrene Heywood, Weippe, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15.

Les Heywood and Clairrene Steadman were married Sept. 15, 1959 at Coeur d’Alene. They made their home in Weippe and together they have two children, Rocky Heywood, Napavine, WA and Lori McMillen, Weippe. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Les worked as a logger all his life, retiring in 2008. He did work two winters at Sunshine Mine in the 1950’s. Clairrene worked for School District #171 at the hot lunch program for five years, cooked in a restaurant and worked seasonally for the United States Forest Service, until an injury forced her to retire in 2002.

The couple enjoys camping, fishing and snowmobiling. Clairrene enjoys raising a garden, reading, and her colorful gardens are beautiful. Les enjoys working at their 40 acres, piling brush, burning and doing the keep-up of their Heywood ranch. They love spending time with family and friends.

The couple chose for their celebration to go on a river boat excursion with their family, and to have a quiet get together with their special friends at their daughter and son-in-laws home.
